Stylus Pen Problem x201 Tablet

2010-07-27, 12:50 PM

Hello,

I recently just purchased the x201 tablet.  The finger touch works fine, however my pen is very strange.

My pen starts activated when I'm about 2cm away from the screen,  I can't click on anything and everything seems to be moving by itself.  The pen works when I'm not touch the screen.  Attempting to write the pen doesn't detect that you've left the screen so it continues to scribble everything.  I have no idea what is going on but it is annoying and it is useless if the pen doesn't work

Can somebody please help me

Same problem here. Just received my X201T 3093-95G (bright outdoor display, no multi-touch) and have the same issue with the pen. If i use the "rubber" side, I am able to execute a "click" when touching the display.

Have tried to install Wacom drivers, situation unchanged.

If this is not solvable, what use is the tablet functionality?

Dear friends,

unforturnately I have noticed the same Problem 4 Hours later after buying my X201T. However I happened to find a Solution with the Stylus Pen of my extrem old Fujitsu ST, which can be used with the official Driver from Lenovo on my X201T with no problem.

The Driver from WACOM is not designed for X201T and can cause Problems if you switch the Direction of the Screen. I have tried this. Actually WACOM has also anounced in their homepage for Tablet PC Products, that their Driver are only intended to supply the Function of the second Button on some special Stylus Pen and for some special Applications.

As I had tried and confirmed before, the Stylus Pen of Fujitsu ST and X61T are compatible. So this evening I will go on to have a try with the Stylus Pen of my old X61T on X201T.

If both of the Substiution works, I cannot stop wondering, if it might be a quality problem by assembling the pen and will go on with some technical Investigation.

That is all what I can tell sofar. Looking forward to the focus as well as some official investigations from Lenovo.

By the Way, very happy to know two X201T Owner from Deutschland.

Dear all,

sorry for the late info while I have just been back home.

It might be a bad news to you that the stylus pen of my old x61t really works perfect on X201T with the official driver. Therefore I strongly quest the quality of the stylus pen from lenovo delivered with the X201T!

What are your suggestions as the next step to all those have the same problem?

Thanks a lot for your investigation! Not exactly what I had hoped for but at least the problem seems to be solvable (and not having to change the screen or something like that).

Seems I can uninstall the Wacom drivers -- can this easily be done without any "residue"?

Next steps to try to get the issue solved:

I think we should raise an official issue with Lenovo support and escalate it if nothing happens. I will take a look into this as soon as I have time.

To also pursue an alternative solution:

Is the "old" stylus the same format/size as the actual one of the X201T?

How much is such a stylus and where can I get one?

I am really happy with the X201T in general, it is a very nice and charming device. I use it daily and mostly carry it around with me.

 Dear ThinkPad Users,

For those specifically having trouble with the pen writing without contacting the surface, I found the article on Wacom's site about changing pen nibs helpful. They recommend that you pull the nib out, bang the pen and blow into the barrel to remove any foreign contamination. I  went the whole driver route, and succeeded only in messing up my machine. Rolling back to the original Window's restore point undid my mistakes, and reseating the nib fixed the writing without touching the screen problem.  This post was written on the X201t.

Good luck. -L

That's interesting, since I also had these problems but they largely improved when I installed the generic Wacom Penabled driver to get the Wintab support needed for pretty much all Windows graphics software, since the standard Lenovo drivers omit this.

Re: Stylus Pen Problem x201 Tablet

I just bought a x201 tablet with multi-touch, and am having this same problem.

Fortunately, Lenovo must have great customer support, because after a relatively quick phone call they're sending me a new stylus. I was leery that the stylus could be the problem since there just doesn't seem to be enough there to cause a problem. But I found an old stylus from an old (non-IBM) tablet, and it works fine. So I'm assuming these problems are due to a faulty stylus.

Hi!

I have read this forum after having had problems with the pen on my new X201 Tablet, and I found a driver that works well:

http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm

Hope this helps a few!
