Turbo memory should I get it?

2008-06-26, 23:13 PM
I am about to purchase a new x61t as my x41 is getting on in years. I have read a lot of negative stuff about turbo memory. Some say there is little performance boost, and some report scary BSOD events and odd systm failures. Anyone out there got anything to say about it's merits?

Thanks

I have turbo memory in my X61T and I believe my machine does run a little faster with it since I only have 2 gigs of ram.  I mainly see a difference in my boot time when it is on or off.  If you have more ram the effects of turbo memory seems to go down is what I understand from other posts.  The problems from turbo memory seem to have been fixed and I have not had a problem with it for over 8 months.  It does seem like a good choice just that I wish they had bigger sizes of memory like four gigs instead of one for it as it may have helped more?

IMO, it does neither help boosting performance nor causing an error. If it really help, it must be very little, so that I could not feel.

If I were you, I would not take it (again.) It just doesn't worth $30 extra. Again, if I were you, I would wait a bit longer for X200 tablet, esp. if you want to order Multi-touch.

Turbo Memory and the associated PCIE card that it is built on, can only be utilized by Vista and no other operating system.  So, unless you will only be using 2 Gigs of RAM and will only be using Vista (both bad choices) go with the Turbo Memory...   If you use the Turbo Memory, you will also NOT be able to use the WWAN PCIE cards either as the Turbo Memory card takes up the slot where the WWAN card normally is installed (only 2 available)...  The other slot is used by the WLAN card...

Hope this helps...
