UMB upper limit segment address: DC00

2008-07-25, 8:43 AM

Hi,

I have a x41-tablet thinkpad since a couple of years. One morning it does not boot up. It turns on and starts the initintialisation of the Phoenix BIOS:

I can see the Thinkpad icon and the massage comes up "To interrupt normal start up press the blue button".  But the computer doesnt comes up. If I press F1 the bios comes not up. I I press ESC I can see the Bios version and the memory  counting but then after some massages:

#UMB upper limit segment address: DC00

#Mouse initialisation.

again nothing happens.

There is no IBM Error code on the sceen.

I have removed the BIOS battery, the main battery and the power supply a couple of hours. no change.

I have no warentry and in wirst case I need a new Mainboard(how much would it cost?). Or could it be an option just cange the bios chip, or someting else?

Thanks.

Jonas Bergel

Hi, thanks for your answer.

just because answer I was interested, how much a new mainboard would cost, I had made a call to the support. And suprise I have still warranty (3 years). So they will change the mainboard.

Problem solved for me...

Thanks, Jonas Bergel

Welcome to the forum!

That does sound like a motherrboard problem, and I doubt that you could get it fixed by replacing a single chip.

New boards can be sourced online in U.S. for around $300, I'm certain that the prices are higher in Europe.

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers,

George
