Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus not working / writing on my ThinkPad X1 Yoga (2. Gen)

2021-01-15, 23:59 PM

Hello everyone.

I just got my new Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus today, charged it and... nothing. It does not move, it does not write, nothing.

I paired it successfully BTW and still no change

Well, first of all, here is my setup:

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (2. Gen)

- Lenovo ThinkPad Pen Pro (included with my ThinkPad) => working

- Wacom Bamboo Ink (lent from a friend) => working

- Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus => NOT working

I tried both, the Wacom AES protocol and the Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP), nothing worked

Also tried the Wacom Components Driver version (7.7-13, for Tablets and Windows Devices with Wacom Pen Technology Components), didn't change a bit

Tried on OneNote for Windows 10, Sticky Notes, Whiteboard, Desktop, Word, Excel, Paint, ... negative

Changed the nibs from blue to soft to hard to normal.... nope

Checked for latest Bluetooth and Pen drivers, all are up to date

Windows Update also all up to date

At this point I have absolutely no idea what else I could do to make this work

Hello PeteWright,

Greetings

I suggest that you try resetting the Bamboo Ink Plus pen.

You may also try the recommended steps on the manufacturer's website.

Hope this helps

Regards

Re:Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus not working / writing on my ThinkPad X1 Yoga (2. Gen)

Finally I returned the pen to the reseller.

Now I would like to know if the issue was with this pen only or if all pens of this series won't work due to incompatibility.

On the Wacom Compatibility page the Bamboo Ink Plus is listed as:

Made for Windows 10 devices

Non-Tilt supported devices:

Lenovo™ ThinkPad® X1 Yoga™ *2

*2 : Blue nib recommended devices. The blue nib can enhance your pen experience.

I also contacted Wacom Support and this is what they wrote:

If you have changed the Stylus with the reseller and you are interesting in get again the newest Bamboo Ink Plus, firstly we recommend you to check the compatibility list https://www.wacom.com/en-de/comp
So regarding compatibility with the device Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga, as our compatibility list is not updated with the 2nd generation of this Lenovo device, we would recommend you to confirm with the brand ( Lenovo ), if they have changed some components to make the device compatible with third party Stylus like our Bamboo Ink Plus.
Unfortunately, if the device is not on the list we cannot confirm  that would be compatible with our Stylus.

So, can anyone from Lenovo confirm that the 2nd Generation of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga is compatible with the Bamboo Ink Plus pen?

Many thanks in advance.

Hello PeteWright,

My apologies for the late response.

Though Wacom website claims that the Bamboo Ink Plus is compatible with X1 Yoga, it did not indicate that it also applies to Gen 2.

We currently don't have documentation that the Ink plus is compatible with the X1 Yoga Gen 2, however there are some users which might have it running with the said device.

Let's wait for the comments of fellow users who were able to make this work.

Bamboo Ink Plus works fine on a X1Y3. Afaik X1Y2 uses the same digitizer so should work fine.

Maybe you can update the Screen Digitizer Firware via

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds503568-touch-screen-firmware-update-tool-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad-x1-yoga-type-20ld-20le-20lf-20lg

but do this at your own risk.

I updated on my X1Y3 and got tilt support after the digitizer update.

Cheers
