Re: When is the Helix release date?

I'm new to Lenovo products though I always hear Lenovo always has coupons and deals regarding their laptops. I was wondering whether or not this usually applied to new laptops or not, debating if I should wait on a deal after the helix is released or just buy it at base price.

You need to download the latest version from here:

http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html

It should be tpfc_v062.zip    Here's a direct link:

http://staff-www.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/tpfc_v062.zip

I ran into the same thing when accidentally dling an older version off another site.

So sometimes when I wake the machine the trackpad/mouse isn't working -- just gone.  I have to reboot to bring it back.  Not sure if Rick or anyone else has had the issue, but I'm not too worried; should be a trivial driver problem, whatever it is.

Also, two pieces of the dock/keyboard appear to be glued or snapped together: http://i.imgur.com/vW8s23N.jpg

Sometimes I leave the tablet detached and set it on the keyboard for easy access without latching.  Several times I've picked it up and accidentally pulled on the top piece of that little "gap" on the dock.  Not sure what's holding it together, but if it's glue then I hope it's rather robust.

I'd imagine it was built sturdily enough and it might be snapped together instead of glued, but can't say I wouldn't have preferred a unibody for the dock if it were possible.

Never had an issue with the track/mousepad not working...strange!    I did have one time that the tablet thought it was plugged in when it wasn't when looking at the status icon.   Not a big deal, but perhaps there are some kinks Lenovo needs to work out with the tablet vs. laptop switching.    It would be nice if that were more configurable/visible to the user in the power settings, as it would be nice to be able to configure the fan behavior (within safe limits) without downloading a 3rd party utility.

The bottom cover just snaps on...maybe one of your snaps became loose?   Mine seems quite tight, but I haven't really picked it up but it's edges.

You can see how it all works if you go to the "FRU Service Full Dock Disassembly Video"

hmm he said 400 "nits" in the video.  OK I googled nits and see that it is the eggs of head lice.  Makes sense to me :).

Ok I do know what this is now in terms of screen brightness that is.

SSD user replaceable?

2013-04-16, 17:40 PM

Does anyone know if the user can swap out the SSD drive? I have a Crucial M4 mSATA 256GB SSD in my Lenovo X220 Tablet right now that I would like to use on it.

Re: SSD user replaceable?

Apparently it is, according to the FRU videos. There is still some uncertainty about whether it would void the warranty to open the tablet and replace one of the key parts. But it would definitely be very convenient if we could, as it would allow upgrading to 512 GB, and perhaps mount a 3G/4G module for areas unsupported (are they?) with the built-in WWAN module offered with the high-end Helix version.
