Re: When is the Helix release date?

2013-04-24, 15:34 PM

Let's not hope too much, we've been used to disappointment when it comes to release dates announcements. :) But I'll surely share the information here if he gets some details for the i7.

The reseller that has the i7 in stock is this one: http://www.pcp.ch/product-1a17019982.htm?parnr=12832879

Actually they don't have it in their stocks, but their supplier has it, and they called the supplier to confirm it was not a mistake. The supplier confirmed. PCP.CH told me that you have to count 1-2 days for the parcel to be delivered to them before they can ship it to you. But they only deliver in Switzerland unfortunately, and the keyboard layout is Swiss. I've asked about WWAN, stating that all Helix models have the SIM slot but not all have the WWAN chip, but they replied it "should" be OK. Therefore, take it with a pinch of salt. But WWAN is listed even in the title so I'm kind of confident.

I found this website using toppreise.ch and the 3698-6CG reference mentioned above, which seems Switzerland-specific.

The French resellers I contacted had not it on their website, and I suppose they have not it in their own stocks either. But the last marketing guy I talked to told me that if I want the i5 version, then it's possible to ship it by tomorrow. I just searched the official Lenovo resellers from the Lenovo website, and called a few in my area.

P.S.
Sure you have no preference for the i7 over the i5? Keep in mind that the i5 comes only with 4 GB RAM, and that it cannot be upgraded.

I place an order for 36984SU from Provantage on April 9.  Just got an email from them stating that it was shipping (direct from supplier warehouse.)   It looks like the rumors that next shipments would be going out around April 25 are true.

It's interesting to hear about the 1,000 units for Europe. My reseller said that they had been promised 6 (!) first week of May and that was it. It sounds as though there's just a smattering of devices throughout Europe, and presumably for each country given the varying configurations/keyboards, etc.

I think the trick is to find the appropriate reseller who is not too far down the food/distributor chain.

Thanks for the link. As I am living in Munich, German or Swiss Layout would be fine. I just don't understand, why Switzerland offers WWAN i7 while German wholesalers state it won't be out until mid-may (or later).

I am really confused about Lenovos release politics..

Yeah, I noticed that it was no longer shown as available.  It disappeared from their listings a couple days after I placed my order.  Only thing I can think is that they had a supply of reserved pre-orders available back when I order.  When those pre-order units were all spoken for, they took the listing down since they may not know when/if they will get next allotment.  I got a pretty good deal also - $2037 including shipping which was best deal I could find at the time.

Good deal on snagging one.  Did you pay extra for overnight shipping?  When I ordered, I only paid $8 for the standard shipping.  My status says "Ground" shipping but am still waiting on tracking number to see how it is shipping and when it is due.

Yeah, paid $41 for overnight AM shipping.

Decided to go with SU instead of 4U. Company is paying for Verizon MiFi, so I figured I'd use it.
