Re: When is the Helix release date?

2013-04-26, 8:27 AM

I've had loads of "In Stock" notification emails this morning. Seems as though the fully-spec'd model (N3Z6CUK) 3698-6CG has arrived across UK. Mine is being delivered tomorrow. One supplier that had 11 in stock when I called was:

Good luck..

There was one report of theirs getting excessively hot, which was obviously a defective unit based on the remainer of the user's experiences (including my own).

And yes, TPFC works great and I'm completely satisfied with this solution.  Completely silent unless I'm stressing it.

I used to work on thermal design for business servers so I personally have some criticisms on the Helix's thermal solution (look at the size of those fans on the dock!) but I give Lenovo's thermal engineers the benefit of the doubt.  Lowering fan speeds generally implies compromising with higher temperatures and this might be an acceptable solution if Lenovo hasn't set the fans at the sweet spot between noise, temperature and reliability.

Rick, if you don't mind doing a little test, would playing a full HD 1080 video in tablet mode fall into the "stressing it" category and trigger the fans?

Personally, I would have raised the dock a little and slipped in a low profile 12cm low rpm fan under the keyboard to provide the same airflow as those tiny fans and reduce both the pitch and intensity of the noise.

Do you know what is the difference between N3Z6C and N4B42? I've contacted two different resellers that are in direct communication with Lenovo. Both sent me PDF files with the configuration I've asked, but one is labelled N3Z6CFR and the other N4B42FR. I've double checked everything in the detailed list of hardware parts in these lists (a full A4 page each time). Everything is identical. Only lines are not sorted in the same order, but every parts are the same between the two models. No idea why the two configurations have two different reference numbers. They don't know either as these PDF files come from Lenovo, not them.

Have you seen any N4B42UK available somewhere in the UK? I'm wondering whether this is a difference in warranty services.

Re: When is the Helix release date?

Can someone help me? I'm trying to instal TPFC, but when I go to install the application I get an error that Winio.sys is is missing or failed to load. I have tried running it as administrator and even downloaded winio drivers. I tried transfereing the winio driver folder to the tpfc folder with no results. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using the latest version of TPFC?

Yes, I believe so. I got it here http://sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/. Could the latest BIOS update prevented it from installing, or have others installed it fine with the latest BIOS?
