I am trying to get a handle on this myself.  Right now can not say as have not had the time to really observe.  But yesterday I took it off of power about 8, used it abit during the day, streamed a show via the belkin, little email and web stuff and by about 9 it was used up.  I also have my screen on full.

This is not an accurate test, but I am sure myself and others will be reporting soon.

I think alot of us are waiting to hear about the battery performance on this baby!

btw, would you say the screen is 400 nits (a recent information sheet from Lenovo mentions 350)   -and is there an LED flash for the rear camera ?

Cheers

Don't know how to check my "nits" :), and no flash as I can see.

When I first got it, the screen seemed darker than I wanted.  Was like my X61.  However, it was on auto brightness.  I turn it off and now it seems nice, but I do get alerted to this setting will use up battery.  So depending on the circumstances I wil go back and forth from auto and non auto.

Overall would you recommend the Helix? I use a MacBook Air and iPad and am sick to death of carrying both devices with me when I travel. I like the iPad for reading but it's useless for doing any work on. Could this replace both?

Just an opinion.  Yes I think it could. I have a Lenovo x61 and it was just short of being the all around.  Screen was dark and could not be detached.  Ok for editing pdfs for a short time for example but for reading books and papers not so.

I have not put the Helix through its paces yet in terms of reading.  I was worried about the aspect ratio, but actually papers fit the whole screen, so that is not an issue for me now.  I am going to "play" more with PressReader and my Kindle books to see how it goes.  I will say that I am also packing Samsung Galaxy Note10.1, which really like for reading.  So all too new for concrete answers from me but I Iwill use both, at this time.

For further information , my colleague who has just gotten his Helix.  He wanted to get away (like you) from carrying both his X61 and ipad.  (We both researched the type of laptop to replace our dying x61's and settled on the Helix).  He just got his but I will ask him or have him post as he learns more.

Hope this helps,

dave

Personally I think there is an "Ease of use" factor that the iPad offers that the Helix will not. It seems like a good idea to have one unit that servers the purpose of two. But you need to examine HOW you use the two devices to decide if the Helix can be an all-in-one replacement.  The disconnected tablet part just does not feel as friendly as a dedicated tablet and I am concerned about there being no cover when it is bouncing around the house or office disconnected from its keyboard/cover.

Also, if you are a Mac person, the Windows 8 identity crisis will necessitate a learning curve. (tablet or laptop?) I would say, be realistic with how you use your machines. Do you like having a little, light device that can be used lexibly and easily at meetings with little fanfare? Do you mostly need to type with your device? Is drawing or note taking important? Can you make the transition to Windows 8 without frustration? You get the idea.

Time will tell, but I think it can be a pretty close match. I have the Ativ 500T as a companion PC to walk to meetings and take notes etc, and while I do have full MS Office on there as well as other 'heavy' desktop apps, I find that the various lightweight iPad style apps (readers, note taking etc) that I also installed work great without keyboard, very much like on the iPad. Personally I have not gone back to using my old iPad since getting the 500T. The only main drawback of the Helix compared to my 500T is battery life of the slate (say ~4-5h vs 8-9h). So for me, I think the Helix could truly be both workhorse and lightweight 'to-go' tablet in one package. We'll see if the users here agree after a few weeks!
