Re: When is the Helix release date?

Can anyone who has the Helix already confirm that it has pressure sensitivity in Photoshop?

Re: When is the Helix release date?

I have one and jave been very disappointed to find out that the pressure sensitvity does NOT work with Autodesk Sketchbook Pro (the Windows program, not the app) nor with Painter. I have not checked but am assuming that it will not have the pressure-sensitivity function with Photoshop. I beleive the problem is with the WinTab drivers for legacy programs.

Pressure-sensitivity DOES work with the Windows Apps that run on RT and  the Windows * OS like Fresh Paint.

I have read that (and have exoerience with) the Samsung ATIV 700T -a similar machine - where apparently (I have read) that Samsung wrote its own drivers so that Photshop and Sketchbook Pro both have the pressure-sensitivity function. I have used this machine and can verify that this is true,

Anyone else have any experience with pressure sensitivity on the Helix?

Oh no, this is not good.

I gave up on the Surface Pro because of the lack of Pressure sensitivity on Photoshop.  I have just ordered th Helix, thinking that this would be the ultimate artist tool.

Have you tried installing the drivers fron the Wacom website?

I checked the Wacom web site and there is a driver for generic "Tablet" and Win 8 OS that says it supports pressure sensitivity. It says it is Beta. I will download it and let you know.

I wonder if installing win7 would get the pressure sensitivity to work in Photoshop. Not the best situation, but one I might settle for. Does anyone know if there is any reason win7 would not run on these machines?

So I installed the Wacom drivers for Windows 8 which have a recent date (March 2013) but still no go - no pressure sensitivity.

The battery life keeps getting better after a few cycles through the battery. I used it for 2 hours at night then all day in the office and still had battery left over.

Now the screen do go off a few times but i would say with just browsing and email with half brightness you get 8hours pretty easy on this.

It seems like it is quite sensative with the brightness regarding battery. if you have the brightness low i could see 10hr battery life and quite low with full brightness.

The brightness seems a little bit lower than my tablet 2. So i would say that 350 is about right. Still very bright none the less. the screen resolution is nicer than the tablet 2 though and i believe you natually get lower brightness when the resolution increases because of pixel density and light refraction

Seems like the battery can be quite strange if you undock it from the base and re-dock. It will actually die faster.

It uses the the keyboard battery as the main power. so if you use the tablet and redock, it will first charge the tablet then conintue to run off the keyboard battery. This process seem to decrease efficiency but helps to keep the tablet always charged. But expect a battery hit if you do a lot of switching. BTW Windows shows the battery percentage of both batteries..

let me know if you want me to test anything. i unfortunately dont have any adobe software on this

The helix comes close to replacing an Ipad but it definitely is heavier and i feel is a little uncomfortable in the tablet mode unless you have something to somewhat support it. it works pretty good but my 7in android tablet is a little easier to hold for reading. I might just need to get used to it

I have to agree that the Ipad has a easier pick up and use factor abet lower functionality

sounds like the pressure sensitivity issues is more related to adobe then the driver if it works fine in windows. They will probably release an update for it soon.
