X200 Won't Shutdown or Restart when redocked

2009-12-16, 22:31 PM

I have a new x200 Dual-Touch Tablet with latest FW updates.  I have noticed that if I undock it and then dock it, computer no longer responds to the SHUTDOWN or RESTART commands from the start menu.  I have to hold the power key down and force the shutdown.

Works fine if I don't undock and dock during the day.

Any hints?

This sounds similar to my problem - in addition to this, my X200T with dual-touch can't even properly go to sleep after docking and undocking. For me, it's not actually the docking that does it - I traced the problem to a conflict between the USB keyboard/mouse and the touch screen, although I can't for my life figure out what to do about it.

If BitLocker is activated, this thread might help.

I don't, and have never had, bit locker activated, and have encountered the same problem with any shut down or power down action regardless of whether it has been docked or not. I'm finding that it has trouble logging off or shutting down 2 times out of three, on average, and the computer stalls in he process of shutting down windows explorer. The desktop image stays visible, the mouse cursor still works, and the hard drive light keeps flashing. I have left it in this state for 6 hours until the battery ran down.

I've had to deactivate automatic sleep in battery mode just so it won't freeze up when I'm working on it, which, as you can imagine, plays merry hell with battery life.

Help please! given the number of time I need to put the computer to sleep and restart it when moving between locations (I'm a teacher and use it between classes at high school) this problem is rapidly making this system more trouble than it's worth!

Performed all of the Bitlocker tips and they helped with another problem when docking/un-docking (having to enter the unlock key), but still won't respond to soft-key nor hard-key shutdown or related commands.

Help?

I dockRe: X200 Won't Shutdown or Restart when redocked

I am having the same problem with my new X200: when I dock and undock, and then try to enter sleep mode, the screen will go blank, the hard drive will gently whir on and off repeatedly, but the machine will not shut down and becomes totally unresponsive, requiring a hard power off by holding down the power button.  If I disconnect the USB mouse and USB keyboard from the docking station, I don't have any trouble entering sleep mode, so there must be something that gets screwed up with the USB mouse/keyboard drivers when docking and undocking that prevents the machine from shutting down normally.  I'm really frustrated.

Could it possibly be related to this Microsoft Win7 QFE?

Thanks for the suggestion on the QFE.  Unfortunately, applied and still having the same issues of:

  1. Hanging when shutting down
  2. The shutdown/restart/sleep softkeys fail to initiate.

In both cases, I have to use the on/off button to force the shutdown and crash the system.   This only occurs if the system has gone through docked/unknocked state.

Really dissapointed in this one and that it hasn't been fixed by Lenovo for the x200 yet (I had another Thinkpad where this was an issue in early Vista release, but addressed).

Any other suggestions would be helpful.
