X230 Tablet AC adapter: 65W or 90W

2018-11-05, 18:28 PM

Hi, I need your help.

I recently bought a used X230 Tablet. It came without AC adapter. I plugged my 65W AC adapter which I have used for X201 laptop for years, and it works just ok.

But when I searched X230 Tablet AC adapter, it seems that not only 65W but 90W AC adapter is compatible with X230 Tablet.

What is the difference of using between 65W and 90W for X230 Tablet? Do I have to buy 90W AC adapter?

Normally, either will work fine.  The laptop is unlikely to use as much as 65W and will only draw as much as it needs.  If you are plugging high-draw accessories, like disk drives, into all the ports, or are using a dock with attached devices and using the optical drive, you might want 90w.
