X230T successor?

2012-11-16, 23:25 PM

Hi,

I know this is an official site and may not be the best place to discuss as-yet unreleased products but thought it worth a try anyway.

I'm doing a lot of work on building sites needing to do data entry when on the move between properties. My X301 which was already on it's last legs is rapidly fading given the harsh environment so it's time to get a new one.

I owned an X61T 4 years back, the higher res not touch version, and loved it but the tablety features were a bit of a novelty. Now I could really do with them.

Anyway, X230T seems the obvious choice. I'll get a stylus so I can handwrite but with what I assume will be a raft of new touch related products over the coming months I'll be a bit annoyed if a new version comes out in the near future.

Also, why is the X230T not shipping with Win8, at least on the UK website, the case accessory for the convertible tablet is still being marketed as for the X220T all points to an end-of-line product.

Is it?

there is some rumors that x230t will be succeed by thinkpad helix but I think it will take several years even if it is true.

Win 8 is missing for the X230T on all the on-line configurators, as far as I can see..... probably just an oversight.

I'll see what I can find out for you!

OK, this the best info I can get...

- Microsoft requires that Windows 8 touch PCs use digitizers supporting a minimum of five touch points...

- X230 Tablet has 300 nit Multitouch Display with two-finger touch

Win8 logo requirements state that a touch PC needs more than 2 touch points.  So the  X230T carry a Win8 logo, therefore it will won't be sold with Win8 preload.

Cheers,

Bill

Bealers,

I don't believe we will be shipping the X230T with a Windows 8 preload as there are elements of it that may not fully meet the Win 8 logo requirements as covered by Bill above.  It may be possible to install Windows 8 on it though.

Have you looked at the ThinkPad Twist?  Here is a link to specs on US site...  I went to the UK site and it had the twist in the banner, but the site is undergoing maintenance and I could not grab the UK specific URL.

Twist is really an ultrabook vs the X230T, however the pivoting display / convertible characteristics are similar in that regard.  Do you see yourself using the touchscreen more, or really needing a pen?

WOW -- seems like Lenovo could have seen that one coming when they released this a few months ahead of Windows 8 release.   When x230t came out many were saying it would be a great windows 8 machine and now it can't it live up to MS requirements to have their logo.   I've been looking at the twist and it is not an x230t replacement.   I know you can still upgrade it . . . but that is not my point.

Anyway thanks for the information.   I had been waiting for Lenovo to start selling it with Windows 8.

Interestingly my very recent X230T arrived with a new keyboard revision - that carries the windows 8 logo on the win key.

According to the Lenovo Partner event, the X230t won't be available with Win 8 preload, also X230t uses a common keyboard as other ThinkPad Classic (other than X1C, X1, T430u), it justs uses the win 8 keyboard as the old win logo kb is no longer produced.

I didn't notice that until you mentioned it, but my X230t also has the new Win8 button logo. Ordered around 10/19.

All new versions of the Precision keyboard come now standard with the new Windows 8 logo. The X230 Tablet uses the same keyboards as other Thinkpads, so it gets the new key as well, but it won´t be shipped with Windows 8 out of the factory.
