X61T - Broken latch

2009-04-03, 2:34 AM

Hi,

I have an X61T - it's no longer under warranty.  Anyway, I noticed that the latch that closes the lid is worn out -  it needs to be replaced.  Just wondering if anyone knows the part number & the cheapest place to get a replacement latch.

Thanks.

The FRU number for the latch on the screen half of the computer is:

42W3403

I dont know the part number for the base half of the latch.

Thanks - the problem with mine is with the screen half I think - the latch pops right out.  It really is very flimsy - especially compared to the latch on my x61s.

There is FRU for every parts on screen half. Check it out.

Thanks - that is really helpful.

I'm worried though about removing the bezel considering that the bezel is held to the screen w/ sticky tape and so many models with the SXGA+ screen have the bezel separation problem.  I don't want to create another issue where none exists right now.

Do any of you have experience removing the bezel w/ this type of tablet?  Should I be trying to get whatever double stick tape is used as well?

Thanks again.

From what I have done, sticky tape is on the bottom only--but they all are multitouch model, I don't know if there is any differences. The hardest part of taking the screen apart is taking all nylon-coated screw cover off. That made me nuts really. If you have the way to do easily, I would love to hear. Otherwise there is nothing much but carefully and patient.

Well, what I can recommend is if your issue right now bothers you, then fix it. If not, then don't do it now. Sticky tape will stay sticky after several times of use, so you don't have to worry about that much. Just stay out of dust, it will be fine. Anyway, for all bezel issue could be fixed easily by double stick tape as you said. Just find a good one--for more sticky.

Could you please capture the whole screen with this forum page and post here? I would love to see how small text in SXGA+ screen is since I have a plan to replace mine with SXGA+ as well, but not sure whether I can bear smaller text.

Thanks,

sipp11

Sure -- here is a screenshot.

On mine, though, I've set the DPI to 120, font size large, and I also use nosquint on firefox set at 120%.
