There is no way that Wireless N was disable by default. However, you may check in device manager >> 4965AGN >> advanced tab >> check at wireless mode or similar (I don't have exact word since I haven't got my system back -_-') whether it's ABGN or not.

or does mean the card has it and the 3 attena need for wireless n is not they and need to be added?

>> As far as I know, X61t doesn't have 3rd antenna wire. Nonetheless, you will be able to achieve 130Mbps with 2.4GHz. But if you want more, you have to use 5GHz band router to get 270Mbps. I'm quite not sure of whether 2 antenna will be able to reach 300Mbps or not though since I don't have 5GHz 3 antenna router to test.

You have to use WPA2 with AES, not TKIP to reach maximum throughput. By the way, for sake of testing, I recommended you to use no security first and don't forget to check whether your router are using 20MHz or 40MHz Channel Width. You have to have 40MHz channel width support for intel card as well.

for 3rd antenna, I checked in tabook, I still find only 2 wire for antenna. You may double check on that though.

Hope this help.

When it says "Wireless N - Disabled" in the description on the Support Site, this means that the "N" ability of the card has been completely disabled and cannot be re-enabled.

You need to enter your type and model number in the required field and click on "Go", you will then be presented with a description of your ThinkPad.

As far as the third antenna goes, I don't know fro sure if the third antenna is present, but I would guess at yes it is. If you really want to be sure you can have a look. Here's where you can find the Hardware Removal Instructions.

The card is not software disabled, it is hardware disabled and this cannot be reversed.

Hope that all helps

What I can say so far is 3rd antenna is not related with this issue.

Since I unplugged one of them, I was still able to use 802.11n w/o any issue (2.4GHz, 40MHz channel width). Throughput is also the same.
