X61t model 7764 expresscard support

2008-02-27, 14:58 PM
Hi Folks,

Does my 7764 support the ExpressCard standard (as opposed to the Cardbus standard)?  I cannot tell from any published specs that it does but I have seen some hints that it might.

Thanks!

schuffr - unfortunately our tablets do not offer an integrated ExpressCard, only a PC Card slot. Taken from our PSREF documents:

"One Type I or one Type II, CardBus Plus (34mm ExpressCard via adapter)"

If you would be interested in using a 34mm ExpressCard device, I can look further into the availability or ordering of that option but I honestly have not heard much about it!

Welcome to the community and enjoy your stay :)

Hi Tim,

Thanks much for the reply.  It's not the answer I wanted unfortunately and the context for my question is clarification of statements made in the thread http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Tablet_ThinkPads&thread.id=85&view=by_date_ascending&page=2

re: magma expresscardI and x61.  I think then the correct magma product is actually their PCI product rather than their PCIExpress product as l8nite indicated in the thread.

By the way then do you have a recommendation for known working pci video cards that will run Vista (and with Aero) well and in high res wide format?  I don't have the spec in front of me but I think my two monitors are 1680x1050 and I run them rotated to portrait mode side by side.

Lastly where would I have found the document you refer to?  I make every attempt to be self-sufficient but after 45 minutes of reading and searching lenovo site I could not find anything that so explicitly expressed the answer to my original question.

thanks again!

I'd like to know more about the "CardBus Plus". That expression is often used in the description of the CardBus-slots of x60/x61 models, but as far as I know there's no official standard called "CardBus Plus". So what is this "CardBus Plus" in those description and what would it advantages be compared to a normal CardBus slot?

And what's with those ExpressCard/34 adapters. Is that just about the "usual" adapters which can connect ExpressCards/34 that use USB2 to a notebook with a PCMCIA slot or is this about a "real" ExpressCard adapter providing support for native PCIe?

Regards, Moskito

Mother - Just lost my entire post by hitting two random keyboard keys...

One more time - abbreviated

I need to run a 1394 xpress card into my X61T...Whats the deal? I read that X61t would only recognizre an Exr card for USB devices andnot 1394...thats one issue?

Other: Cant we buy an adapter frame for a 1394 express card and use that? thats what I did for my wwan exp card...I need to connect 2 ext hd's to 1394 preferably one to the X61t 1394 port and one to a 1394 express slot..

Tim

Can you get back to us with details on an adpater that can be used with 1394 express cards(34).

Also, I am wondering if I can use my current adpator I had to get to support my wwan express card...

And finailly, I posted this earlier, but I read in the other TP forum that x61t's can't support 1394 devices via express cards only USB devices. So this beckons the question. If i did have an adapter for a 1394 express card will the x6at recognize it or not or is the poster correct that it will only recognize usb devices.
