pcicsa.sys - please remove the reference (Lenovo Solution Center)

2014-03-06, 19:26 PM

I have been receiving this message in my System Event Log Event ID 7000 - Service Control Manager The pcicsa.sys service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified. I suspect that because the new file pcicsa_x64.sys, which resides in the "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Solution Center\App\ldiag" folder, is used, perhaps someone neglected to remove a reference to the old file? Please help un-clutter the mess in people System Logs. It gets really difficult to see what's really causing problems when there is so much stuff like this lying around.

Same problem here.  "pcicsa.sys" doesn't appear in any of the services or in the registry, so I don't know what's trying to launch it.  I wonder if it's Lenovo's "Solution Center"?  Beats me.

Yes, I am quite certain it is.  Any chance we ge confirmation from Lenovo on this and a ETA for fixing?

I had this same problem after running the Lenovo system updates.  I've had similar problems in the past with orphaned references.  I found that disabling Lenovo items in the task scheduler fixed it.  I dsabled both Customer Feedback Program and Solution Center.  There were two tasks for each (4 total).  I found them in the tree under "\Task Scheduler\Lenovo" and "\Task Scheduler\Lenovo\LSC".  I suspect it's one of the Solution Center tasks, but I didn't want any of them wasting CPU cycles so I got rid of all 4 tasks.

Yup, that's what I did too.  Shut 'er down.  I can't see any reason for these Lenovo apps to run in the background, especially when they don't do much for my Y510P other than log errors.

ibid:

The pcicsa.sys service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

On a new 4 week old W540 - 20BG 0016US,  nice.

My laptop is a T420, so the problem appears to be more widespread than a specific model.  I've had similar issues when upgrading various Lenovo applications where a new version causes new errors.  Typically they're harmless, but annoying and thus have doubts about the quality of the software.  If you find a version that works, I'd suggest sticking with it and not upgrading unless it's absolutely necessary.  For the Solution Center, I haven't found any use for it and haven't had any issues once I disabled the scheduled tasks.  I admit I haven't gone as far as actually uninstalling it though.

All,

I'll bring this up with the LSC team  - I know they are working on a new release due out in about three weeks.

Edit - Update.  Confirmed with the LSC team that this is a known glitch that should be addressed in the mid-April release.   Thanks for your patience!

Best regards,

Mark

I get pcicsa error consistently on Yoga Thinkpad S1 20CD 00B1 US since day born, along with LenovoEMCDiscovery cannot be found/failed to start. I think the latter is more serious issue, but both of these events started occuring with original image. Final work arounds should be posted in more noticeable thread for all to see. Uninstall of LenovoEMC Storage Controller was required to solve very substantial network issues. Resolution here
