symptoms of x200 tablet hinge breaking?

2010-02-27, 17:36 PM

Hi,

I got my x200 tablet a month ago. There seems to be some grey plastic foam seeping out from under the hinge cap as i have observed lately. In addition the hinge cap appears to be slightly slanted as if the foam is "pushing" it up. Not sure if anyone has such a problem before but does it warrant any concern or is it simply a manufacture defect that will not affect the tablet negatively? Is it necessary to get the hinge replaced asap since i am still under warranty by lenovo?

I have tried searching around for issues regarding x200 tablet hinge but i cannot find anyone posting about them. Hope someone can help me with this problem

Is posting a picture possible? I've personally never heard of the problem, but I am interested in how durable our tablets are.

Argh, those look pretty bad...

But my first inclination was that they were just cosmetic.

Does the hinge function normally otherwise?

Feels sturdy though. But the looks of it is pretty disturbing. Not sure if i should demand a replacemnent of the hinge/ hinge cover. I went to ibm to let them have a look since thinkpads are still under warranty from them. They told me it should be fine as long as the hinge is operational but i am not sure if it is really ok.. I cannot afford to have my tablet break down on me in the middle of my lessons :smileysad: Any suggestions on what to do regarding this?
