I've had a X380 for over a year, and it's worked great for the most part. A few weeks ago I got a new monitor, and ever since I first changed the brightness on the monitor while my laptop was plugged in via HDMI, I haven't been able to adjust my display settings, and my brightness setting is locked.
The brightness buttons don't work, and neither do any of the other ways of changing it. Additionally, whenever I open settings, and select "system" the settings app freezes for a few seconds, then closes entirely. By getting into other settings under "system" such as sound and notifications, I've realized that this only happens when the display settings menu tries to open.
I've tried every workaround I could find - I've reinstalled every driver related to the screen, I've hard restarted the computer and even tried to reinstall from a system recovery disk (which would quit from error anyway). If anyone has had a similar problem or knows a solution, I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.
Kindly perform a clean boot where it starts with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your laptop. Please follow the steps here.
If the issue still persist, please reset the BIOS and observe if you'll see any changes.
