Display difference between U.S. and Canadian sites

I just ordered a multitouch unit from the Canadian website and  a friend of mine pointed out a difference in the x200 description of the displays on the tablet between the U.S and Canadian Lenovo websites.  They read as follows for the display on the x200:

U.S. site has:                12.1" Enhanced Multitouch WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

Canadian site has:          12.1" WideView MultiTouch + MultiView LED backlit WXGA panel

I wonder if anybody knows whether there is really a difference in the displays (the new display vs. the old display), or the Canadian site just has not been updated to reflect the display as being enhanced multitouch.
I cant get a straight answer from Lenovo.

Re: Display difference between U.S. and Canadian sites

Canadian site has: 12.1" WideView MultiTouch + MultiView LED backlit WXGA panel

- Only one input at a time (stylus, or finger)

- NOT actually Multi-Touch

- No cancellation of accidental touch palm

- More expensive ($253 more before coupon)

- Older

U.S. site has: 12.1" Enhanced Multitouch WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

- Allows two simultaneous touch

- Allows gestures like pinching, rotatings

- Real Multi-touch

- Works well with Windows 7

- Allow cancellation of accidental touch palm

- Works with simpletap

- Cheaper

- Newer

- Better

Enhanced Multitouch was launched in USA, Ireland, and UK in Sep 09.

Lenovo's official response is that for Canada, they need to print the material in both English and French, so it takes longer. But it think it us jut Bull S**t. It doesn't take that long to convert a manual for English to French. Google does it in one second by goggle translate.

There is no official date for the launch of Enhanced Multi-touch in Canada. But from the looks of it, Lenovo is trying to sell off all the old outdated models in Canada by giving 30% off the original price.

ThinkPad X200 Tablet -    Configuration - On 31 OCT 09.

                    auto saving:                 $2,214.00 CAD

USA

12.1" Enhanced Multitouch WXGA LED Panel with Wide viewing Angle

                    Price:                             $2,274.00 USD = $2,457.00 CAD
                    auto saving:                 $1,854.00 USD
                    [USPTHINKTAB]            -$370.80 coupon (save 20%)
                    Total saiving:                   $790.80 USD

                    Payment:                        $1,483.20 USD  = $1602.60 CAD

So for $52.80 CAD you can get a much newer and much better system, if you didn't live in Canada.

Lenovo will be releasing a newer version the X210  in USA in Jan of 2010. It will probably take another year for them to start selling it in Canada.

Re: Display difference between U.S. and Canadian sites

Well I did call Lenovo and they told me that I will be getting the enhanced multitouch, despite the wording on the Canadian website.  Hopefully they are right, otherwise I wont even open the box, I will just send it right back...but I did just use the coupon included in your note, and saved over $500 from my original order....Thx.

Re: Display difference between U.S. and Canadian sites

Please let me know when you get your laptop in 3-4 weeks time, if it actually  has Enhanched multi-touch.

I hope that they do send you the Enhanced Multi-touch X200t instead of the old one, but you should keep the name and the agent number of the Lenovo representative you spoke to just incase.

Re: Display difference between U.S. and Canadian sites

I will let you know.  I actually have my assurance from Lenovo in writing, but hopefully not needed.  I am  hoping they just give me the lower price I found thanks to you on my exisiting order and then cancel the new order that should speed up the shipping date.  Even if they make cancel the original order, its still worth $500 to wait a bit.
