Re: Hey everyone, new here, looking for some advice
I am selling my X201 Tablet and was wondering what the best way to wipe out my harddrive was. Also is reformatting as simple as using the back up partition through a media drive?

Welcome to the community!
I like DBAN to scrub HDDs that I'm recycling. You can read about it and download here: http://www.dban.org/
Lenovo also has a data destruction tool, but I've never used it. You can find it here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVAN-SDD
For DBAN, you'll need an external drive to boot from to run the tool. Not sure if there is a different option for the Lenovo tool. Once the process is complete, there will be nothing left on the drive. A new OS install will handle partition creation and formatting.
hth.

Your feedback helps us improve! Thanks so much, quick question, i put the backup partition on a NTFS usb stick to boot from (not as data) and tried to boot my machine from that, however, nothing happened. The screen stays black with the white ' _ ' character blinking at the top left. What am i doing wrong?
Hey Sarbin, first of all thanks for all your help, when yo usay a "new OS install" will this happen automatically if I use DBAN to wipe out my machine, then just turn on the laptop? Will it start to install the OS?
Thanks.
once you wipe with DBAN (or other scrubber tool), there will nothing on the drive. you'll need to boot disk 1 of the recovery disk set to start the factory reimage process. then feed the remaining disks as prompted.
does this help?
Yes it does, thanks!
'welcome! :smileyhappy:
