How to disable Thinkvantage active protection sensor?

2020-02-07, 8:13 AM

I have replaced the HDD in my X230T tablet with an SSD.  If I understand its function correctly, this means that I no longer need the Thinkvantage active protection sensor, which sometimes stops boot and gives me a warning if I am carrying my X230T around during startup.

Is it needed for anything other then HDD head protection?

If not, how can I disable it?

Hi !

The Active Protection system is enabled by default whenever the computer and operating system are operating. When the Active Protection system is enabled, it protects your hard drive when the shock sensor inside your ThinkPad computer detects a situation that could potentially damage the hard drive.

You may uninstall ThinkVantage Active Protection System from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.

  • On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
  • When you find the program ThinkVantage Active Protection System, click it, and then click Uninstall.
  • Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove ThinkVantage Active Protection System.

Regards,

I have done as you suggested, but removing the application does not prevent Thinkvantage active protection sensor diagnostics from running during boot (before the OS loads) and stopping boot if the laptop isn't held still during boot.  I have searched the BIOS settings without success for a way to disable this behaviour.  Is there none?

There is no way to disable it at BIOS level.  I have never heard that the APS diags can prevent the laptop from booting.

It only stops booting temporarily. If I hold the laptop still and press "Enter", then boot-up continues.
