MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Has someone did try installation mc7455 on x220t recently ? I could manage to install mc7304 on x220t and working fine after bios 1.42 whitelists was removed. I did try install mc7455 instead and doesn't recognize by the system.

Has someone got idea how to resolve this problem.

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Hello

It's a very interesting combination, I expect to perform almost the same one, but with m.2 modem.

OK
is the modem Sierra original, not an engineering sample? What's its SKU#? Are there any unknown, unusual devices in the device manager?

Anyway, I'm sure, the issue you've faced with is caused by the interface incompatibility. MC7455 is a USB 3.0 device, it also some utilizes PCIe lanes for the modem management and dual sim card lanes. USB 3.0 lanes #23, 25, 31, 33 at the modem connector differ from the USB 2.0 ones, #36, 38.

WWAN/msata slot in the x220 supports USB 2.0 interface only and has PCIe lanes routed to the chipset sata port. Those #23, 25, 31, 33 are busy by msata interface too.

So, in order to force mc7455 to work in the x220 wwan slot 4 pins listed above should be isolated. Tape them using the single strip, from pin #23 to 33.

Then modem should be recognized by the system. Otherwise, if modem will be in the locked state after laptop cold start, some additional efforts should be needed.

I'll stay in touch your success. )

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Thanks a lot for throughly information. Based on specification, this mc7455 does support USB 2.0. Actualy I bought from china same as mc7304. If we install USB 3.0 driver, does that problem would be solved.

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Of course, this modem is USB mode backward compatible.

It utilizes USB 3.0 interface for maximum speed achievement in the LTA-A network mode. In the USB 2.0 mode such speed (or even LTE-A mode entirely) might be unreachable. But I'm not sure regarding the last statement (LTE-A missing if USB 2.0 interface only is using) as I didn't test this modem yet.

Drivers will not solve interface incompatibility issue. The only isolating will help in our laptop, not a big deal (I have a Gobi 2000 taped due to another reason).

BTW, what's the current cost?

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Hello,

Thanks anyway, actually I'm a user and don't really know about all that pins otherwise provided with a full instructions.  That cost me about 139US. Actually it's not an urgency for me, perhaps mc7304 is working fine.

Are you afraid to tape the pins? Or you don't know where the pins are, how this actions could be performed?

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

In order to force your modem mc7304 to work in the x220 you had to perform some efforts - to tape the pins #20 and/or 51 and/or use modded tpfnf5 tool from the Hotkey package, depending on the modem initial configuration.
So, you are modest while say you are "only a user". )

OK.
Take a look at this page
http://pinoutsguide.com/Slots/mini_pcie_pinout.shtml

Find out 4 pins of the PCIe modem connector to tape on the picture, table and here above. Use the stationery tape or even better the sticky receipt tape, from the pin #23 to #33, with small overlap to the conector back side (bottom) in order the tape will not be teared off during the card fitting.

Re: MC7455 NOT RECOGNIZE ON X220T

Thanks a lot.  For mc7304 no issues for me because working fine except mc7455. With that pinout arrangement then very helpfull. I'll try to follow as instructed and still tune.
