Hi, can anyone give me a definitive answer to this question? I have a SSD drive which Windows reports as being 215GB in size in my X1 Carbon model 20A7. I need to upgrade it but am getting mixed messages from information on this topic in the forums.
What's the largest capacity I can have? Is there a list of specific, Lenovo approved products I can/must choose from or can I buy any 2.5" SSD drive from any manufacturer?

Hello and welcome,
Your X1 doesn't support 2.5" drives. It uses an m.2 SSD in 80mm length IIRC. Here are some references that should help you track down a compatible drive:
Product PSREF: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/158
Hardware Maintenance Manual (for instructions on replacing the SSD): Hardware Maintenance Manual
Parts list (for researching specs and compatible drives): https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1...
Please double check that I've linked 20A7 info. It was a bit of an Easter-egg hunt.

Hey, thank you for this. Very thorough :-)
From the BOM it looks like I could upgrade to 512GB.... small by today's standards but still double what I currently have.
