Although I have seen other users report problems with their pens for X201, I think my problem is unique. My pen will only work in landscape mode. I've updated all drivers, calibrated the pen, and even took the laptop to a repair shop.
My warranty has expired, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Apologies, but I am somewhat confused by your query. Does your pen not work in tablet mode whatsoever, or does it not work in landscape view? Also, are you able to use your finger to use the touchscreen when in this mode?
Thanks in advance,

This sounds like it is an issue with the mouse driver. The machine likely turns off the mouse when in tablet mode, but the pen uses the mouse driver to use the pen. I would try navigating to Device Manager and uninstalling the driver from the UltraNav device. Following the uninstall, install the Synaptics driver here. This should provide better compatibility with the tablet mode.
Hope it helps,

Thanks for the suggestion, Adam. I've installed the Synaptics file. Unfortunately, this hasn't remedied the problem.
I've linked to a video that that illustrates the problem.
You'll see that the pen works fine in landscape mode but doesn't function in tablet mode.
Unless I can find a solution soon, this may be something I have to live with as the warranty has expired.

did you ever resolve the problem?
Kind of sounding like the display cable issue mentioned here
The tech who was here today told me that he suspects it is the cable that connects the LCD screen to the rest of the computer. That cable winds through the swivel hinge and his bet was that something is getting pulled apart when you turn the screen and close it. Now they're ordering a replacement cable and he said he'll probably be back tomorrow to try it.
