Re: Lenovo Helix Touch Screen Malfunctioning

2014-05-20, 7:10 AM

Hi,

after working a while with my helix the touch on the display with finger doesn't work. After working with the digitizer the touch with fingers works for several seconds. Then after waiting for 10 seconds without working with the fingers the touch doesn't work again.

Sometimes it works an hour, sometime only a few minutes.

Is there any solution?

kind regard

Dieter

What do we do if this firmware won't install on "newer systems"?

All,

As covered, please try to install the firmware update http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037644

Since this was introduced into manufacturing some time again, it may not install on newer systems.   If you already have this, or have installed it and still experience abnormal touch screen functions, especially related to normal handling fo the systems, please contact service.

Best regards,

Mark

Hello,

I've got the same issue as well. Pen is working, but touchscreen is not responding.
So far I tried :
- Keeping windows 8.1 up to date
- Updating the BIOS
- Installing the touchscreen firware (which does not work)

Thanks

Yes, now I also got a similar problem on my helix 36984SU. But I would guess it's a software related problem!

Symptoms:
The whole screen stops responding to touch (while the pen is still working). It's not just working badly or laggy, it's completely non responding to touch!

Why i think it's a software problem:
Normal restarting, does not help, but the "extended har shoutdown" (holding the on/off button for 15-20seconds, then let the helix stay off for a few minutes before restarting) is making the touch work perfectly fine. But if i put it to sleep, turns it off, or restart the computer, the helix goes back with no respons to touch. The weired thing is that the exteded hard shutdown fixes the problem 100% of the time! And putting the computer to sleep, turning it off, or restarting the devise is always the cause of the fault (never happened while in use, or by physical movements or vibrations). So I guess changing the screen would not fix the issue?

I'm hoping it's software related and maybe has something to do with windows 10, since the problem started a few days after reservation and download, but installation of windows 10 unfortunantely did not fix the problem and reinstalling drivers did not fix it either.

Same problem here, its about 2 months.

I tried every thing, I restored to windows 8 (factory reset) but same problem happens again, so it should not be about Windows 10 I think. unfortunately at time being the extended hard shut down is not solving the problem for me but sometimes randomely the touchscreen works again !!! i have no idea

I will send it to customer service this week.

Nobody from Lenovo reads this? I tried windows 10 and I have the same problem. Idk if is hardware or software. We should have a tool to tell us what is the problem.

"The whole screen stops responding to touch (while the pen is still working). It's not just working badly or laggy, it's completely non responding to touch!"

Same problem here.

It appears only after using the pen for a while.

Sometimes i can fix this for 1-2 minutes on 3 different ways:

1) Put the pen back into the slot (which deactivates the digitizer) and remove the pen again.

2) Hold the pen for a short time within the "pen-recognition range" (which deactivates the touchscreen for no palm-recognition): This means 1-2cm in front of the screen.

3) Disable and Reenable the touchscreen. I wrote a .bat file for this: "c:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Tools\x64\devcon.exe" disable "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&SUBSYS_220717AA&REV_04"

"c:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Tools\x64\devcon.exe" enable "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&SUBSYS_220717AA&REV_04"

Workaround 1/2 works most times, Workaround 3 always.

But the problem reappears most times after a few minutes.

Maybe worth to notice: When executing the workarounds 1/2 all not-recognized touch inputs i tried before are executed instant and all at once.
