Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

Hi

I recently bought a lenovo thinkpad x230 tablet from ebay, but unfortunetly it doesn't have finger touch capability, only the stylus works.

I have tried to find a replacement screen but unfortunetly I coudn't find any in Egypt.

However I am able to find many x220 tablets with finger touch capabilty and pen stylus.

Is it possible to exchange screens between x220 tablet and x230 tablet?

I think both laptop are pretty identical except for the integrated graphics onboard.

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

Thank you very much, your reply was helpful.

However I have one last question: are there different versions or models of screens with finger touch capability?

Like what is multi-touch, is it different from a screen with both finger touch and pen capability?

Sorry I'm new to this.

No there is only one model for LCD panel which is MultiTouch which means it supports pen & five-finger gestures and its same as touchscreen with both touch & pen capability.

Cheers,

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

The multi-touch screen is pen and/or 5 finger touch.  The outdoor screen is pen-only.  (no finger touch).

X230t and x220 screens are compatible.

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

Hello everyone

I have an update regarding swapping the screens.

First of all my x230 tablet has a core i7 processor with intel HD 4000 onboard but it seems it is the outdoor version which is why only the pen works (no finger touch).

I bought a x220 tablet that has core i5 processor with intel HD 3000 onboard and is the indoor version that supports both pen and finger touch.

I attempted to swap the screens to have the screen with the multi-touch on my original x230 since I think it has higher specs regarding the procesor and maybe even the motherboard, and re-sell the x220 with a pen only screen.

But I faced the following problem:

There are 2 cables comming out of each screen/monitor. The left cable on both monitors are pritty much identical as I can tell from the numbers on each cable (no prob). But the right cables are different, so the right cable from x220 monitor does not fit well inside the corresponding socket on the x230 motherboard, and vise versa.

I have attached photos of the right cables, and I think I have one of 2 options:

1) attemp to also swape right cables from inside each monitor. Not sure if that is going to cause any damage or problem.

2) swape the processors of both machines in an attemp to keep the machine with the highest specs.

Please advise on what to do.

Thank you.

X220t, x230t, touch, non-touch all use the same cable

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

Hi Richk

By your reply do you mean to say that it is safe to also swape the cables, or are you skeptical about the cables being different because if you are, please check the image I attached explaining and showing the size difference.

Also there is no chance that any cable has been replaced, since both machines were working properly before I disassembled them my-self and discovered this.

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

I don't know.  I haven't seen what you are describing.  I looked again at the x230-t parts list and they show a different cable for something called comet-2.  I have no idea what that is.  sorry.

Re: Swaping screens on x230t and x220t

Hi, I have an X220T with a cracked screen and I am trying to find one in the aftermarket. I came across a post somewhere saying you could use an X230T screen and that it might be superior to the X220T. Mine has both touch and stylus. Are there multiple model numbers out there? What should I be using to search and/or reference?
