USB-C dock with X1 Tablet 2nd Gen fails with two monitors

I have a new X1 Tablet 2nd Gen abd 40A9 dock. I'm trying to connect two monitors to the Dock:

  • Samsung 213T, 1600x1200, as VGA monitor (4:3)
  • Dell 2824, 1920x1200, as DisplayPort monitor (16:10)

I can connect one or the other fine, but when I connect both, I get flashing screens.

Is this dock really unable to drive two monitors when one is slightly over 1920x1080? Is there a dock that does? Could I put the Dell monitor directly on the laptop's mini-DP output?

Re: USB-C dock with X1 Tablet 2nd Gen fails with two monitors

Just updated the USB-C dock firmware to V02 dated June 23, 2017. Didn't help: still starts strobing if I connect two monitors.

From the specs in the manual, it looks like the USB 3.0 Ultra dock (40A8) would dual 1920x1200 screens. Why can't the USB-C dock handle them?

Re: USB-C dock with X1 Tablet 2nd Gen fails with two monitors

After experiencing other problems with the USB-C dock (monitor won't stay asleep, often can't boot computer with dock attached), I'm returning it in favor of a USB 3.0 Pro dock, which does in fact support my two monitors.

Blogged the differences and issues here:
