I have an X201 Tablet (3113-W4M) that came preloaded with Windows XP SP3. I blew away the XP image and reloaded with Windows 7 Enterprise and obtained all Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo website.
The issue is that after the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernate *and* I plug in a USB mouse or USB mouse/keyboard combo, I am unable to lock, shutdown, restart, or hibernate the system. Additionally, anything that invokes UAC fails to display. If I look at Processes under Task Manager, I see where consent.exe is running (called when a UAC approval prompt should be displayed). Sometimes it is running multiple times corresponding to multiple events that should have displayed the prompt (e.g. running RegEdit). Turning off UAC is a workaround to this issue but does not address the root cause and does not address the lock/shutdown/etc. issue.
After extensive troubleshooting that included 2 full OS reloads, process monitoring, and deep log reviews, I have narrowed my issue to the following steps:
1) Boot tablet with no USB mouse and/or keyboard attached
2) Attach USB mouse and/or keyboard
>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both function as expected.
3) Hibernate tablet (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)
4) Resume from hibernate (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)
>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both fail
I discovered this as I move my system from work (Logitech S510 keyboard/mouse combo) to home (Logitech LX 310 mouse). I have all current Windows 7 updates and I have installed the latest Setpoint from Logitech. The issue occurred before and after the SetPoint software was installed.
Oddly, I can restart the system via command line using "shutdown -r" but it takes 4 to 5 minutes as opposed to less than a minute when this is is not occurring.
Thanks in advance to the community.
