X220 display port to hdmi problems

I have an X220 with an i72620 running win 7 64.  curious behavior today.  when I connect the laptop to a wqhd monitor (2560x1440) via a display port to display port cable and turn off the laptop screen so as to run only the monitor things work great.  No issues.  However I tried a connection via dispaly port to hdmi and while i could get the monitor to work running the native resolution of the X220 screen (around 1366x768), every time I tried to select external monitor only, the machine would blue screen and crash.  Any ideas why????????

I did one experiment hooking the display port to hdmi to another monitor--this one 1920x1080--and that did work.

I guess I can't figure out why the display port to display port works fine with the wqhd monitor but not when a display port to hdmi is used.

Re: X220 display port to hdmi problems

The monitor is an ASUS 27" monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1440.  That is the one that causes the problems if I connect via the display port to hdmi.  If I connect display port to display port it works fine.  If I connect the x220 using the display port to hdmi to my other monitor an HP 2338 with a native resolution of 1920x1080 there are no problems.  Currently I have connected the ASUS monitor to my w530 via its mini display port to the display port on the monitor and it works great.

Re: X220 display port to hdmi problems

it could be that the X220 has issue with HDMI 1.4 standards.

Re: X220 display port to hdmi problems

That would be surprising.  HDMI 1.4 came out in 2009.  1.4 in March 2010.  My X220 was purchased in 2009.  But will an hdmi 1.4 device be backward compatible with a 1.3 pc?

Re: X220 display port to hdmi problems

yes it should be back compatible between HDMI standards. However, i am not sure how the Displayport handles HDMI standards.
