X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Re: X230 newbie

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

Regards.

Re: X230 newbie

Ok.

The first line is your LCD with FRU P/N 04W3919.

Looking at the X230 Parts List, it appears that FRU P/N 04W3990 is the multitouch LCD.

Hope this helps clarify.

Re: X230 newbie

Ah... So mine simply isn't multitouch. What a let down. The seller clearly stated that it's multitouch. I've contacted them regarding the matter, hoping to have it solved.

Also, is it possible to have the screen replaced seperately without going back to the seller? It's a bit of a problem for me as the computer was shipped overseas.

Re: X230 newbie

The multi-touch version's screen spins around and folds down into a tablet and there is a spot in the side of the computer to store the pen....  I'd demand some sort of compensation, hope you used a credit card.

First thing I'd do is go find the original advertisement or auction and take a screenshot of it to present as proof if needed.  good luck

Re: X230 newbie

Well, the device's screen does spin around and it does fold into a tablet and there is indeed a spot to store the pen on the side. And as I have mentioned, the screen does respond with the pen but it doesn't respond to fingers.

I've contacted the seller. It's an eBay sale so it's protected by eBay rules. It'll be fine.

Re: X230 newbie

There is a version of the tablet (screen spins and folds also) that has a pen but does not have touch, instead of touch it has anti-glare screen for superior outdoor use.  Perhaps it is that version?

The Windows7 driver is no good, get the real driver from Wacom - ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDOWS/isd701-8_int.exe

Re: X230 Tablet newbie

Thanks a lot! The specific driver you linked me to didn't work but I went and downloaded the drivers from Wacom's website and those worked like a charm... Also, disabling Flicks helps. Those things just get in the way when I try to draw.

I could really live with having no touch as long as I have pressure sensitivity. For me, that's the most important feature in this kind of machine.
