Keyboard will not sync with new tablet.

2021-01-05, 0:45 AM

I received my new X1 fold today and I cannot get the keyboard to sync.  I have tried repeatedly to sync with bluetooth but it always fails.  The bluetooth does work, as it does "see" the "keyboard"  but then it fails connection "please retry."  I connected my Sennheiser bluetooth earphones to the X1 and they work perfectly.  I then tried to sync the keyboard to my phone and it showed up just fine as a Lenovo Fold Keyboard and worked perfectly.  The keyboard works with other devices, and the X1 works with other devices.  I've tried turning it off and on again several times, as well as updating drivers for bluetooth, windows updates and so on.

According to the instructions and my review, you hold F11 on the keyboard to set pairing mode.  Is that what you did?  (I think it took 3 - 5 seconds, but I'm not sure.)

Yes, I held f11 until the blue light came on, and then it showed up in the bluetooth menu.  (also at the bottom for "quick-sync")  I tried both ways... the quick sync "failed, try BT menu" and through the regular BT menu.  Like I said, I got it to sync fine with my phone.

I'm running out of ideas.  As I said, mine worked fine.  When you installed the bluetooth drivers through Vantage, or manually thru the download website, did you put on the latest BIOS?

I updated the bios through thinkvantage, I downloaded the bluetooth driver from lenovo's website.  I uninstalled it but it seemed to reinstall automatically when I restarted.  I was going to try that again see what happens.

Sorry if this is obvious, but it has actually tripped me up. Do you have to hit the enter key after keying in a 6 digit number to pair? More than once I almost flipped the keyboard over when it didn't connect but then realized I neglected to hit enter. I forget if I had to do this for the Mini keyboard or if it was only when pairing a Logitech keyboard.

The X1 doesn't ask me for anything like that.  I noticed my phone did, enter ******** and hit enter but it told me to do that.  The X1 just says "pairing" and then says failed within a couple seconds.

I completely reset the tablet last night, reinstalling windows, still no dice.  When I got into work today I was trying to make it pair again, and my Dell Optiplex AIO popped up and said "do you want to pair" so I tried and it gave the same error.  It must be something wrong with the keyboard?

When you press and hold the keyboard F11 key for 3 seconds, does the light flash blue?

Yes.  It flashes blue, and the X1 fold says "do you want to use smart sync...."  (also my dell did the same thing).  Also I have tried using the dialog to add it, new bluetooth devices, add new device.  It searches and sees "keyboard" and I add it... and it says error try again.
