TS140 dedicated video card recommendationd

2014-11-24, 20:33 PM

Hi there,

I bought the TS140 with the i3 and 4gb of RAM.

As it stands, it is a fantastic device with 8gb of RAM and 3 1TB HDD's.

It comes with the 280W power supply, which is on the lower end. Does anyone have some video cards they can recommend that will increase the graphics performance while not over exerting the power supply?

Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be the NVIDIA GTX-750ti  (most powerful card that runs on PCIe power only -- does not require any 6 pin graphics power cables pluged in) and has very good gaming performance.  Or else the AMD R7-250 which is quite a bit less powerful graphics wise than the NVIDIA but  has negligible current draw  That one would be the lowest thing usable for gaming.

Both of these are low wattage cards and should be no problem with 280 watts good luck.

Thanks for the recommendation, I actually went with the GeForce GTX 750 Ti! I got the FTW by EVGA for a super low price ($90) and that had a 6pin connector for its double fan. Despite the two adapters i had to get and the front USB ports now disconnected (due to the video card taking up so much space), the setup is great and its giving me impeccable performance. Ive had no stability issues, even with the card overclocked.

In the event someone googles their way here, I have used AMD W5000 FirePro and nVidia Quadro K2000s workstation cards in the TS140.

Additionally, the TS140 has surprisingly good built in intel HD 4400 graphics and supports 2560x1440. Had to take a TS140 home from work to be my minecraft client... er Home Workstation.

I have an extra Radeon HD 7770 lying around. This was a low power card a few years back. I know it requires a 6-pin PCI power connector, and that I'd need to use a SATA-PCI power adapter.

My question is whether the TS140 has enough power from the 280watt PSU to power the 7770 along with 4 hard drives and an SSD.

Looks like the just-today released 1050ti might fit the bill. 75w, no need for a power connection. Will it fit? What are the constraints on size?

I've got a 1050Ti and a 600W power supply in my TS140 now, but can't get the system to recognize it! Have you had any luck?
