Raid degraded ST50

2020-10-15, 12:10 PM

Hello everyone, everything good?

We have an ST50 server and from 6 months until now raid 1 started to be degraded, always on disk 2.

We go there and remove the disc and replace it, and we have it rebuild and get back to normal.

After about 2 months the problem happens again.

We tested this hard drive on another device and there is no error, also change the port it is connected to on the server.

Any tips on what it might be?

Hi Rafamello

I would recommend to upgrade the firmware to the latest version first and observe for a while.

And check the system event log for related error messages.

If hard disk errors continue to occur in the same slot, I will determine that it may be a backplane error.

Hi.

Update firmware, you say of the disks?

In Windows there is no disk error in the events and we have already changed the slot that the disk is plugged into.

Performed tests on the disk in another device with the tool of the manufacturing of the disk and did not present any error, says that it is healthy.

Yes, you may try to update the firmware of the system and hard drive.

This is good, if you have an available empty slot to test it.

According to your description, if this problem will only occur about two months. Then it may take a long time to observe.

Cross-testing can help the problem diagnosis to confirm the hard disk or slot problem.

Hello, I got up on the site and there is no driver for the controller (Intel (r) c600 + / c220 + series chipset sata raid controller).

My server is ST50 (ThinkSystem) - Type 7Y48 - (https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/servers/thinksystem/st50/7y48/7y48cto1ww/pe050n1w/downloads/driver-list/?linkTrack=Caps % 3ABody_SearchProduct & searchType = 6 & keyWordSearch = PE050N1W).

How to update this chipset?

Hi Rafamello,

Here is the Intel RSTe(Rapid Storage Technology enterprise) RAID Driver for Windows 2019/2016/2012 R2 (For Windows) download link.

If a GUI-based OS is installed on your server with Internet access, you can use the UpdateXpress tool to apply the firmware update.
