Server Rd120, disk SAS. Help

2020-10-02, 8:35 AM

Hi.

I need your help, please.

I am writing to you from Spain. Sorry for my english.

I have a R120 server with 4 146GB SAS drives in raid 5.

Right now one has broken down and I can't find a disc to replace it anywhere.

The FRU for the disks is 45J9652.

The question is, can I buy a disk with a higher capacity and 10k speed, would it solve the problem even if the disk is not from Lenovo?

Thank you very much.

Hello @ Toni70,

Here is a link to the drive ThinkServer SAS Hard Drives - Service parts https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd003185

This page lists the part number which you can use to find pretty easily on the web.

Please let me know if that answers your question and if it does please mark this post as resolved so that others my find this information.

Hi.

Thank you very much for responding.

Yes, I already saw that link the other day, but it did not solve my doubts.

Today they have responded to me from IBM sales and they do not give me any solution, there is no disk that can replace the damaged one.

So my question, if there is a problem if I install a non-Lenovo disk.

Thank you.

Typically it is recommended to make sure that the drive specifications match as closely as possible.

So technology (SAS), speed, and size in a single array should all match.

Please let me know if that answers your question or if I can help you further. And be sure to mark this post as resolved so that others may find it.

Hi.

The initial configuration is 4 x 146GB SAS drives (Models 45J9652) in Raid 5.

At the time, one of the drives failed and IBM Parts supplied me with a compatible drive, exactly this model (03X3614, SAS 300GB 10k).

As you tell me, I could replace the disk that I currently have damaged by a 10K SAS, even if it was 600Gb and of any brand, right?

Thank you.

Disks within a single storage pool must meet the following requirements:

Same manufacturer

Same rotational speed

Same capacity

Mixed disk configurations may result in unpredictable device behavior and will not be supported. If you need technical assistance, please be prepared to backup your data and remove any unsupported drives or configurations.

This helped me too

Hi.

OK thank you very much.

In the end I was able to get this model 03X3614, SAS 300GB 10k.

It is the same one that Lenovo replaced me with the damaged 146Gb.

A greeting.
