TD350 - System Fan running constantly at 100 %

2016-09-16, 9:07 AM

We just installed an ThinkServer TD350 with Intel Xeon E5-2620v4 CPU, which has a very weird problem. The 4 System Fans are running constantly at 100 % (4x 3800 rpm!), which makes this system just unusable.

I already tried several things like:

Updating BIOS & TSM

Reseting Bios/TSM/... Settings (Using Setup and even the Jumpers)

Removing every unnessary hardware

The CPU temperature is reported as -60 °C (a negative value???) and the  Ambient Temp is 23 °C.

I don't understand why there are no options to manually configure the fan control, or set any threshhold values.

Otakulynx,

Are you currently just using the one 85W CPU?   Also, what PCIe cards are you using in your system?

I want to see if your configuration is related to a known issue.

Hello,

I have the same problem with my TD350.

The 4 System Fans are running constantly at 100 %, the CPU temperature is reported as -64 °C (a negative value) and the Ambient Temp is 24 °C.

There are 2 CPU and any PCIe cards.

Thank you for your answers. I was able to solve the problem with the Lenovo Support. I had to downgrade the TSM using the TDM.

I used this version:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkservers/tsm_v154-82699.exe
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkservers/tsm_v154-82699.txt

After that I also had to reset the CMOS/Settings of the TSM using the BIOS-Setup.

This helped me too
