TS140 70A4, bios update failed

2020-11-17, 16:26 PM

Hello All,

I entered the serial number in order to find the system BIOS update, prepared the bootable USB stick with unetbootin, extracted the files, booted into FreeDOS, but when I loaded flash.bat the screen turned black, forever.

Luckily the system came back with the original firmware.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

-Gian

Hi Gian

Would you please download TS140 BIOS update utility for DOS. You can follow the instruction to create DOS bootable USB key and run the BIOS update utility from a DOS bootable USB key.

that is exactly what I have done.

The USB key boots, I move from A: to C:, load flash.bat, then quick refresh with messages too fast to read and BLACK SCREEN.

Hi Gian

What do you mean move from A: to C:?

You should place the BIOS update package in the USB key boots device. Please do not place the package in the other disks.

When the server power on, press F12 at the Lenovo splash screen and select to boot to the USB device. The system will then boot to DOS from the USB device. Navigate to the folder on the USB device containing the BIOS update files, and then run Flash.bat to start the BIOS update process.

The USB key I made with unetbootin has both A: and C: on it, and when I extracted the files to the drive, I found all the files in C:.

Hi Gian

Would you please use the "rufus.exe" utility included in the update package to create DOS bootable USB key. And then copy the package contents from the folder on your hard drive to the newly formatted USB key root directory to run Flash.bat.

I do not run Windows on my boxes, so that's why I used unetbootin.

this is exactly what I did, and explains why I had to switch from A: to C:

"At the FreeDOS menu, select the second option FreeDOS Safe Mode (don't load any drivers):

You will end up at an A:/> prompt. Type C: then Enter to switch to the C drive.

Type dir then Enter and you should see all your files that you copied onto the USB stick."

I setup a W10 VM, but rufus.exe fails on both USB keys I tried... and yes, I have run it as Admin.

The result is an empty LOCALE folder on the USB key.

I have done it again from scratch, with unetbooting, this is what the USB key looks like:

drwxr-xr-x 2 gian gian   32768 nov 20 09:23 '$RECYCLE.BIN'

drwxr-xr-x 2 gian gian   32768 mag 25 13:30  BIOSDOS

-r--r--r-- 1 gian gian   32768 nov 20  2020  ldlinux.sys

drwxr-xr-x 2 gian gian   32768 nov 20 09:17  LOCALE

-rw-r--r-- 1 gian gian   60928 nov 20 11:08  menu.c32

-rw-r--r-- 1 gian gian     145 nov 20 11:08  syslinux.cfg

drwxr-xr-x 2 gian gian   32768 nov 20 09:17 'System Volume Information'

-rw-r--r-- 1 gian gian 1474560 nov 20 11:08  ubninit

-rw-r--r-- 1 gian gian   25244 nov 20 11:08  ubnkern

and this is the content of BIOSDOS:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian  155472 mar 24  2017 AFUDOS.exe

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian  153568 apr  7  2017 AMIDEDOS.exe

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian    1754 mar  3  2011 CHOICE.COM

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian    4870 nov 23  2012 find.com

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian     262 gen 16  2018 Flash.BAT

-rw-r--r-- 1 gian gian 6815744 mag  5  2020 IMAGEFB.ROM

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian    1555 nov 27  2008 INPUT.COM

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian    8322 apr  2  2014 PROGUUID.EXE

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian 1397760 gen 16  2014 rufus.exe

-rwxr-xr-x 1 gian gian    1582 mag  5  2014 VPD.BAT

Is it correct, or should I move the content of BIOSDOS to the root of the key?
