TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

Hello All, I seem to having trouble with a TS430 and it is not posting after a CMOS reset. Apparently before the reset was done it was "having issues booting", not sure the exact symptoms before the reset as someone else was experiencing the problem did the reset.

Current symptoms:

Unit does not post. Does not give any beep codes when trying to post. Most commonly get the POST code 00110010. TMM is happy and up and running as per flashing LED.

What I have done:

1. Read the POST codes and got 00110010 and 1110010. Those errors don't exist in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

2. Unplugged everything from the Mobo minus power to see if any other device is interfering, including RAM reseat. No luck.

3. Attempted to recover the BIOS via this forum posts methods from the Lenovo staff member: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkServer/TS430-POST-Error-Code-0x72-No-Display-Output/td-p/3913571

I assume at this point the BIOS is corrupt to a non recoverable state and the board needs to be replaced.

Just posting this as to see if anyone has any other idea that I might be missing.

Thanks

Re: TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

Hi Andrew

As you mentioned, you can read the POST codes and got 00110010 and 1110010, but those errors don't exist in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. According to the POST error code 01110010, I found some information from TS430 POST Error Code 0x72 - No Display Output for your reference. Would you please refer the Hardware Maintenance Manual section System board LEDs to double check and provide the POST codes.

Re: TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

I managed to only get the 11110010 error once. I keep getting the 00110010 error. I attached a PDF with a photo of the error and my logic of trying to get the code. I think I am doing it right haha.

Re: TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

Check page 53 of  hardware maintenance manual, there are no 00110010 and 11110010 error code.

https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkservers/ts430hmm.pdf

I found An AMI code list which include the code in hardware maintenance manual, the meaning is the same.

Attach 00110010 and 11110010 error code meaning as follow:

0x32 CPU post-memory initialization is started

0xF2 Recovery process started

Re: TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

Hi Andrew

According to Robin's reply, attach 00110010 and 11110010 error code meaning as follow:

0x32 CPU post-memory initialization is started

0xF2 Recovery process started

Please refer below steps to test.

1. You can try to change RAM to test first.

2. If above is not working, you can refer Hardware Maintenance Manual section Recovering from a BIOS update failure to recover BIOS.

3. If it is still not booting, the BIOS may corrupt to a non recoverable state and the board needs to be replaced.

Re: TS430 Not posting after CMOS reset.

I tried different RAM in different slots. Still has the same problem. Still cant get any video output. Smiley Sad

I cant seem to get any other error code now besides:

0x32 CPU post-memory initialization is started

I also tried doing the BIOS recovery by putting jumper into recovery mode and throwing a new BIOS onto a USB stick. I cant even start the recovery process as I get no video output.

Thinking the BIOS is corrupt to a non recoverable state?
