Adapting 2.5" hard drives for use in a ThinkStation

Question

How do I adapt a 2.5" hard drive for use in my ThinkStation?

Answer

There are many 2.5" to 3.5" HDD adapter brackets on the market.  Lenovo have developed their own bracket for use in ThinkStation systems to meet specific size, strength, and vibration requirements along with compatibility with the removable chassis rails found in these systems.

The FRU number for the 2.5" to 3.5" bracket is 41R5625.   It can be procured through IBM Maintenance Parts or various resellers online.

These brackets use hex screws with a "plus" shape on the ends.  This is not a Phillips drive but rather intended for flat-head screwdrivers.

The hex drive is the preferred method of tightening these screws.  The size is 5/32" but can be used with a 4mm driver if 5/32" is unavailable.
