Computer that starts turns off then turns on normally.

2020-05-12, 12:25 PM

Hello,

I have a Lenovo ThinkStattion E32 tower in my possession.

I wanted to activate a function in the BIOS and since my computer starts and shuts down 2 sec after, then turns back on and starts normally.

This may cause the machine to break in the long term.

I specify that my BIOS is not up to date it dates from 2014 and I cannot at all to update it.

I saw that we could make a Clear CMOS.

If you have advice or even help I am interested.

thank you in advance

We're likely going to need some more details here to be able to help you out?

First of all, can you please provide your system configuration?

  • CPU?
  • Memory?
  • Graphics?
  • Storage?
  • BIOS version?

Secondly, what exactly did you change in your system BIOS before the system started acting up?

Hello,

I have a ThinkStation E32.

I have an Intel Xeon E3-1225 V3 processor.

I have 1 strip of 8 GB and 2 of 4 GB which makes 16 GB of RAM.

I don't have a graphics card (it's in the porcesseur). I have 1 TB of hard drive storage.

All information on the motherboard can be found in the attached photo.

I point out that the BIOS was not working well because I had changed something that it should not like.

Thank you for your help.

This definitely helps.  A couple of things I'd recommend:

  1.  Clear CMOS

  • There should be a clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard circled in the diagram below.

  • Unplug AC power from the system and move the clear cmos jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
  • Plug AC power and listen for the 2 short beeps.
  • Once you hear the 2 short beeps, remove AC power and move the clear cmos jumper back to the original pins.

2. Once you clear CMOS, it might be a good idea to update your BIOS here:  https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/fbjtdbusa.zip

it's always the same problem.

Are you sure there are no BIOS settings that would do this ?

The BIOS version that I originally sent the link to is the "flash from USB" method.  In order to use this package, you'll need to extract these files to a dos-bootable USB key, boot to the USB key, and run autoexec.bat.

There's another BIOS version, https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/fbjydbusa.exe, that you can run from within Windows.  Run the .exe file and follow the onscreen instructions.

For the method with the USB key, you just have to copy the files on a key or create a startup key ?

If yes how do we make a bootable key.

with rufus : https://www.howtogeek.com/136987/how-to-create-a-bootable-dos-usb-drive/

Thanks again.

Yes, you would need to make the USB key bootable before extracting the contents of the zip package to the USB key.  Yes, you can use a free software such as Rufus to make a dos-bootable USB key.
