D20 no power up - no Green LED on powersupply

2017-07-09, 16:39 PM

Lenovo D20, M4158

Date on power supply: B1012 (12th week of 2010), Rev: B - Model: FS7052 AcBel (1060W)

I verified my outlet power; Power cable is in working order.

I tried the 10sec- power button test after diconnecting power to "reset" power supply.

No power up at all, no green LED on the power supply. (not even red)

1. Is the problem a bad power supply or a bad motherboard?

2. Can you verify the power supply operation by connecting it to main power outside of the motherboard?(see pic below).

Do you get any of the LEDs on the rear of the supply to light up when applying AC power?

The LEDs are actually diagnostic, so when the supply is connected to the rest of the system, the status of the LEDs should help diagnose whether the problem is on the power supply side of things or the motherboard side of things.

So I would do the following tests:

1.  With the power supply installed in the system and fully connected, apply AC power and document the status of the LEDs on the back of the supply.

2.  If both LEDs are dead when doing #1 above, remove the PSU from the system and try applying AC power and documenting the status of the LEDs on the back of the supply.

My guess is likely a dead PSU, but let's get the above questions answered just so we can be sure.

There are NO LEDs lit up when AC power is applied in either scenario: fully installed in the system and out of the system.

Pretty sure that indicates a dead PSU.  But I'll double check my documentation when I get into the office tomorrow to be sure.

From the documentation I have, I think it's safe to assume your power supply is dead.  The green LED is supposed to indicate 3.3Vsb is active on the PSU side.  The yellow LED being off (with the supply connected to AC power) is actually normal.  That LED will normally only come on if one of the other rails (12V, 5V, 3.3V) is not outputting and the rail is not in an overcurrent condition.
