Dual X5690 in D20?

2016-04-24, 14:33 PM

4158CM1, dual CPU 95W Heatsinks

Wondering if the latest bios: 61KT50A has the microcode updates for this processor: X5690

I think officially it supported up to X5675.

Any real world experience using this CPU? Thanks.

Yes, the D20 can use dual X5690s with BIOS 50A. It's the standard C20 (but not the C20x) that's limited to 95W CPUs as it lacks components to handle 130W options.

You will need better heatsinks, however. Yours won't be able to handle the thermals of 130W CPUs under extended, full-load use. The heatsink info you need can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd022484

Thank you for the info.

Is the FRU 41R5580, replacement part the same for CPU#1 and CPU#2? Or are there some minor differences.

It's the same part for both CPUs in the D20. Two 41R5580s are what you need. Check various resellers online or even eBay. There are a handful on eBay at decent prices—some new, some used. The typical caveats buying used are the condition of the fan and copper contact plate.
