P320 Network Issue

2018-05-29, 14:24 PM

We have a number of  P320 desktops that are running Windows 10 with the latest BIOS and network card drivers since late April 2018, a number devices loose network connectivity when left for a couple of days when not being used.  The fix we currently have is to reboot the desktop or disable NIC and then enable it again after doing this 1-2 minutes later network connectivity is restored.

Has anyone seen this issue ?

Are the systems going into sleep (S3) or hibernate (S4), or have you disabled all of the sleep settings such that they are essentially on (S0) 24x7?

The system is not going to sleep as all these settings have been disabled, the user can log in using a local cached profile but can't access any network functions until we perform the either the option in my original post.  The issue seems only to reoccur over a weekend and they have the issue on a Monday morning.

Interesting...the fact that it seems to be occuring over the weekend repeatedly leads me to believe it might be an OS issue or a network environment issue (perhaps the router is recyling the DHCP list at a set time every weekend?).

Do you have other systems on the same network?  Are they seeing the same thing, or is it only happening with the P320s?

Have you checked the Windows event logs to see if there are any clues there?

Same issue for me.

13 x p320 ThinkStations. My s/n is ********

In pure view - disconnecting of a cable causes permanent "cable is not connected status" until reboot.

I have tried few different drivers, i have turned off all network pxe options in BIOS, i have tuned driver features like power saving and speed.

I have tried to delete the device in device manager and install it again.

My colleagues dont turn off their PCs because they are aware that it will not work next day.

Only full reboot. And this is PROFESSIONAL hardware :manmad:

Lenovo's answer to me was, sounds like an organizational issue/open a support ticket with us.

I'll post something here if I get a solution. :)

Actually a support ticket is the right way to go here.  And since there are several of you reporting the same issue, it (should) become more difficult for support to write this off as a one-off issue or even an environmental issue.

Network issues like this can be very tough to diagnose remotely because everybody's network environment can be extremely different.

I know I've had a P320 running in the lab for weeks, and though I'm not sitting in front of it every minute of every day, it's been running just fine every time I check the network status.  I've seen a few indications where the network connection would drop, but by the time I checked the system it had already reconnected and was not having any issue.

We also hotplug cables to different networks on these quite often, and I've never seen an issue where I have to reboot the system in order to get the network connection to work.  It might take some time for the automatic redetection to occur, but it always does on my end.

I think the best path forward here is to get this submitted into support and try to escalate into L2/L3 support.  I'd send them a link to this thread just so they can see that it appears to be a pervasive issues to some extent.

Ok. I believe your station works fine. My stations too, until the next time..

Try to disconnect network cable for a 2-3 minutes. Usually it enough for me.

And Pls note what network model is installed in your station.

My station got newest Intel L219-LM driver

As i see it can be also Realtek and Aquantia hardware. What hardware is installed in your model?

And by the way support tickets doesn't works correctly for me.

 "Access Denied

You don't have permission to access

"http://support.lenovo.com/contactus" on this server.  Reference #18.67df3a17.1532410437.1445ceee "

I can use VPN instead, but i'm sure this is not the way it's meant to be.

Update.

Now i was trying to reinstall it.

I've deleted the device in device manager. Cleaned driver storage with "Driver Sweeper" software (all factory preinstalled drivers and drivers downloaded with Windows Update) it was a big pack of Intel L219-LM/L219-V drivers.

Then i've installed Intel Ethernet Driver from the download page of p320 models. The version of my file is 12.15.23.7 (latest for Lenovo, not latest for Intel).

And now it seems to work pretty fine. I'm trying to make it fail, but i have no success for few minutes. Now i'm going to test it on another stations.
