P500/700/900 RAM, difference between RA0-10 and RAO-11?

2018-09-06, 20:18 PM

I'm seeing a few vendors selling Lenovo memory for the P700, take for example the 16GB memory models, some end RA0-10 and some end RA0-11 what's the difference between them and are they both compatible?

So for example one model is: 16GB 2Rx4 PC4-2133P-RA0-10

And the others are:                   16GB 2Rx4 PC4-2133P-RA0-11

Both appear to have the same part number: 4X70G78062

Sorry for the delay on getting back to this, but I did get some feedback on this request.  As I suspected, hunch about being wrong about CAS latency was right :)

Turns out this info is related to the SPD revision level.  So the "10" = v1.0, and "11" = v1.1.  So the main difference in the DIMMs is that the "11" version supports a newer SPD revision level as defined by the JEDEC spec.  I don't have details on exactly what changed between 1.0 and 1.1, but vendors will sometimes need to change the SPD revision level as more features get added (even if those features don't necessarily affect the DIMM/memory support for the platform).

Bottom line, I think you'll be just fine with either one as both are fully qualified.

I'll have to dig into this a little bit.  My first gut reaction was that it was referencing CAS latency, but I'm not sure that's correct.

However if they both have the same (Option) part number, they should share the same compatibility.

Thank you for your time looking into this, it's most appreciated.  I was worried about mixing the RAM but it sounds like I'll be fine.
