P520c Bios Question

2021-02-04, 15:35 PM

Hello All,

I have a P520c thinkstation. When I enter the bios, instead of typing my password, I just press enter it will go into bios and allow me to change any settings in there other than the bios password. If I enter the password before getting into bios I can change any settings in there including the bios password.

The question is, is there a specific setting I need to enable in bios to make it where if someone enter bios without a password, they would be restricted to making any changes to it. Any info is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Setting an "Administrator Password" in BIOS shouldn't allow you to change settings in BIOS without entering the correct "Administrator Password".

Just to clarify your setup...when you say you can change settings without including the BIOS password, are the settings actually saving when you press F10 to save and exit the BIOS setup menu?

For reference, what BIOS version are you using in your P520c system? I'd like to do some digging into this a little more.

Would you be opposed to trying this on the latest BIOS revision level for P520? S03KT43A

Sure. Let me give that a try. I personally never updated bios outside a of windows. Does Lenovo have a software where I can create a bootable USB to update the bios?

Hi,

I was unable to get it to boot off the USB instead I went into windows and updated the bios.

Currently it is at:

S03KT43A

I am still able to do everything in bios other than changing the admin password when I enter bios without the admin password.

I hope you can find more info in regarding to why it is doing that. Thank you

@mebsterbball

Hello, I would like to ask if you have any update or possible suggestions I should trial and error with to see if bio setting would lock without admin password. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.
