Set BIOS and boot logo to native Resolution on Thinkstation S30?

2020-05-28, 19:54 PM

I have a Thinkstation S30 and the "issue" I have is that the boot logo and BIOS logo is at 1024x768. It's not really an issue but it's more for my convenience. I would like to set the BIOS and Windows Boot screen resolution to the native resolution of my monitor.

Is it possible to change it and what BIOS setting should I change?

EDIT: The desktop resolution is fine, I am talking about the Windows startup screen

I tried disabling CSM support and enabled UEFI mode only but the resolution is still stretched.

I saw that other Thinkstation S30 had their bios and boot screen are at the native resolution

Btw I am using VGA input.

Some displays only support lower native resolutions (as 1024x768) when connected using analog VGA.

Check the user guide or user manual for the native resolution supported for each display connector.

You should try with HDMI, or else, and see...

I am talking about the boot screen, with the Windows logo and circle, it looks stretched and it's not pleasant to look at :)

Once it goes to the logon screen and desktop it's 1920x1080, so I am wondering if I can change the resolution of the BOOT screen.

I have seen other Thinkstation S30 users (Mostly on youtube videos) with the boot logo showing at full resolution and they were using VGA.

Some people that were having dell PCs mentioned it was because of legacy mode and CSM mode and everything would look good with UEFI mode.

I know that legacy mode lowers the initial BOOT resolution but even after changing it to UEFI it still shows it at the low resolution.

It's not really that big of a deal it's just annoying to look at.

This is similar to what I see when it boots \/

I think it really depends on your display.

My P700 is plugged to my HDTV.

When connected with VGA, I also have a 1024x768 boot logo, then a 1920x1080 OS desktop display.

When connected with HDMI, my TV struggles 2 sec with HDMI, first says it's DVI, then display boot logo in 1920x1080, and does not change...

Hi @Alexenferman,

I  would check in your monitor settings if there's a "stretch to fit" setting you could turn OFF. I know some monitors have them.

Good success,

Martin

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the Windows boot screens are usually of a fixed resolution, centered on the screen. Any size change is likely caused by the screen resolution change.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to change the resolution of the BIOS post screen output.  Here are a few suggestions you can try:

  1. Make sure you're running the latest version BIOS.
  2. Try connecting to a DP or HDMI output monitor.  It could be a limitation of the VGA resolution.
