Shipping Delays

I've ordered three Lenovo machines in the last six months.  A P1, a P1 gen 2, and a P330.  Each was customized and ordered via Lenovo's website.

 

The P1 purchase went smoothly.  The P1 gen 2 purchase did not; Lenovo lost my order, helped me reordered and honored the original price, then shipment was delayed about 2 weeks.  The P330 purchase is not going smoothly; it was ordered 1/19, was supposed to be shipped 1/28, then Lenovo changed the shipping date to 2/24, for about a 1 month delay.

 

Is this typical for customized orders?  Has there been a recent problem with fulfillment?  Is the virus in China affecting operations?

Unfortunately I'm not sure we'll be of much help in trying to explain what might have caused your shipping delays.  Most of the employees posting in here are not that tied to the fulfillment side of things, so we wouldn't have insight on details about potential parts delays, etc.

 

I would say that customized systems could take longer to fulfill based on how unique or complex the configuration is.  That might not always be the case, but it's certainly a possibility.  This is probably more likely on the ThinkStation side as opposed to the ThinkPad side simply because of the larger number of unique parts supported on ThinkStation.  Your best bet would be to continue to work the case back through your sales rep(s) to try to get more info on any shipping delays.

 

Hope that helps.  I understand shipping delays can be frustrating.  I'm currently anxiously awaiting some P43s units myself :).

Well, the Thinkstation is delayed again.  Ordered 1/19, first shipping date 1/28, delayed to 2/24, now to 3/11.

 

I suspect this is fallout from the virus and China's shutdown.  Lenovo's largest assembly facility is in Wuhan, I think.

 

I started a business last week, and am using my Thinkpad P1 gen 2 until the Thinkstation arrives.  The P1 is doing fine but not having redundancy worries me.  I am sort of thinking of buying a backup PC.

I am having a similar problem with a P330 Tower G2 ordered in December. Delivery was pushed to February, then it arrived incomplete. I have spent many hours on the phone with Lenovo Sales getting the parts on the way because they can't find the correct part numbers.

 

Yesterday when an agent tried to enter a part number clarified on this forum (thank you!) the result was an automated cancellation response for the order that included it as well as another part backordered to March 27.

 

Another missing part, the wireless card antenna, was moved from fulfillment by sales to onsite warranty service, with the part shipped to me and a technician scheduled for installation. I just opened the overnight envelope and they shipped the wrong antenna.

 

If I could start over, I would order the closest matching machine from a stocking distributor.

 - ThinkStation systems bound for North America are typically built/assembled in Mexico, not China.  Obviously though a lot of components flow through China, so that's most likely having an affect on your shipment date.  Unfortunately it's a quickly evolving situation over there, and I'm not really privvy to the day-to-day updates of what's happening on the front lines.  Also, as far as I know, there is no ThinkStation production happening in Wuhan.  I believe there is a mobile phone production facility there though.

 

 - It sounds like they are routing you through the service team for help with your system issues, but if there's anything we can help out with in terms of troubleshooting, part numbers, etc., feel free to let us know.  There's not much we can do to impact fulfillment, but we can certainly try to help with any technical challenges you might be facing.

Hope you get the part soon! My P330 did arrive and I’m very happy with it. Don’t have a picture of the machine itself but just imagine a sleek black workstation living under this desk. Next Lenovo task is to get a Tiny to drive the conference room screen. I’ve been Miracasting with the Thinkpad P1 but I’d rather have a dedicated machine for that task.
