Thinkstation P620 Disk Storage Limits

2020-11-21, 22:15 PM

Hi.  I'm having trouble getting definitive answers regarding potential P620 disk storage limits.  Specifically the 3975WX CPU option, but I imagine that disk storage specs are the same for the other Pro CPU's as well.  The specs and marketing info suggest there's a limit of 4x4tb conventional drives and 2x2tb NVME drives.

Is it really possible that I can't plug in a bunch of my 16tb drives?  Or add additional drives via an external enclosure?  Sales mentioned to me that these "limits" are not actual limits but rather the max that has been certified.

But before I potentially spend $10K+, I need confirmation that GPT partitions are supported so I can plug in as many 16tb drives as will fit in the chassis, and that I can add additional 16tb drives via a USB or eSata enclosure.  Can a somebody with this info please help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Sales would be correct in saying that these storage limits is what has been qualified on the P620 platform.  Though we haven't physically tested 16TB SATA drives on the P620, I would think these should work just fine.  The P620 fully supports UEFI/GPT so setting up GPT partitions on the 16TB drives shouldn't be an issue on this platform.

The P620 has the ability to add in 4x 3.5" SATA HDD's using the HDD bays as well as 1x 3.5" SATA HDD using the Flex 5.25" bay.  Yes, additional parts may be required to utilize these bays.  My suggestion is to make sure you work with our sales team and being as upfront as possible on your future plans with this workstation so they can make sure the system will be built with the necessary parts to be able to configure up to 5x SATA HDD's on your own.

Thanks.  That helps.  Strange though that large drives haven't been certified on the P620.
