What power cable required to power internal HD's

2018-02-06, 19:30 PM

Hi,

I'm looking to install some internal HD's into my Thinkstation P710, I see the sockets on the mother board that say HDD power 1 and 2, 1 is already powering the DVD drive but what kind of cable do I need to buy to use the HDD power 2 socket. All the cables I can find online are molex but this connector is a smaller square one. Any help would be appreciated.

John.

Greetings Steelej80 , and welcome to the forums!

I believe the part you're looking for is the FRU 03T8800 "HDD power cable, manual plug, 4 drops, 630mm."

Enjoy your new workstation!

I'm not able to find that listed anywhere, is there a 3rd party option? is the 4 pin power plug just a standard ATX power plug?

Thanks

John.

I've also got it listed as part number SBB0A10954, but like you, I can't find either listed on the Lenovo International website.

Let me do some checking for you and see why that is.

Not sure, but I think that the cable you are referring to is the Option Bay Power cable (FRU 03T8794) which has a 4 pin connection like this and two SATA power plugs.    I don't see that part avaiable on Lenovo Ecompass parts (60 days out), but I do see FRU 03T8800 availabe here, which is similar but appears to be longer and provides more SATA power ports.

Thanks for the reply guys, I actually opened up my system again and what I thought was powering the dvd drive wasn't, 4 little sata power plugs where hiding behind the front fan housing :D all sorted now.

Well, some progress on this end at least, seems I was confusing platforms and supported configurations.

Can I take a step back and first ask what configuration you're trying to accomplish, as the P710's motherboard supports more than 4 SATA HDDs only with a RAID adapter.

Sorry for the delay, we'll get this cleared up.

My config plan is a 3 disk stripe using the built in raid.
