Buying Parts For a New Sr530

I recently bought a Sr530 ThinkSystem and found out that it did not come with the hdd power cable that would run up to the front hot swap bays. It also didn't come with the data cables as well. Little new to this, I would like to buy the cables and they 2.5 hdd bays but having a EXTREMELY hard time trying to find how to purchase them. Can anyone help me figure out how to purchase these parts.
I think I am looking for "Cable,8x2.5 HDD BP Signal (Part # 01KN082)" and "Cable,8x2.5 BP Power Cable (Part # 01KN076)" but not totally sure. Thank you.

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

Hi JeffStrongman,

The parts "Part # 01KN082", and  "Part # 01KN076" are correct. For order parts, please refer to the link: Order Parts.

You can check the as-built parts from the Part Lookup page.  If the parts you are searching for are listed in the as-built part list but not came when you received, you should contact the dealer or distributor who sold the products to you and obtains the missing parts.

To query the as-built parts from Part Lookup, follow the steps:

Enter your serial number in the search field, press Enter.

Select As-Built, and select the cables from the COMMODITY TYPE, the parts will be listed.

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

@Grace0330 The SN is J100FC8x

I checked the Part Lookup page and it indeed was not supposed to come with the machine. My bad! I really thought the cables would be there for future expansion.

On the Order Parts page, the "Buy Lenovo PC parts online"  goes to a website that has no idea what those parts are. I emailed them the other day and have not heard back from them. (https://lenovo.encompass.com/)

The link for "For ThinkServer & Data Center Parts" does not work at all.

The link "Order parts online" at the bottom of the page goes to

https://www-store.shop.ibm.com/shop/en-US/PartsUSStorefrontAssetStore/MaintenanceParts

And when I search their store I get a very nondescript

Capture.PNG

and

Capture2.PNG

Are these correct? And if so what part number am I looking for to add the front hotswap drive bays?

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

Hi JeffStrongman,

I would suggest you calling (800) 388-7080 for parts order assistance if you have questions about the part order.

The parts you need:

1. 8x2.5 HDD BP: Part # 01GV280.

2. 8x2.5 HDD BP Power Cable: Part # 01KN076.

3. 8x2.5 BP Signal: Part # 01KN082.

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

SR530 configurations.JPGHi Jeff,

According to the picture  you provided  ,I think there is some misunderstanding. The cable you need is for onboard SATA to HDD BP.  But the onbard SATA is for SR530 4X3.5 form factor chassis not for 8X2.5 form factor chassis.

I reviewed the BOM of your server and your configuration is the first  8X2.5 no backplane ,no drive configuration.  You need to buy 2.5 hotplug HDDs and HDD bracket and external RAID card or HBA card /HDD BP/HDD signal and power cables  to let your server work.

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

Hi JeffStrongman1,

Do you purchase this model - ThinkSystem SR530 2.5" Chassis with 8 Bays without any drive bays?

If it's the case, you need to purchase  2.5" 8-drive backplane kit (7XH7A05896) to add drive bays.

Here is the document link for the ThinkSystem SR530/SR630 2.5" SATA/SAS 8-Bay Backplane Kit.

To support 8x2.5 drives bays on SR530, an HBA or RAID adapter is required.

I recommend that you can open a support case for the hardware purchase and request field helping you to install the backplane kit.

Refer to this article for how to open a support ticket for Lenovo Data Center products: https://support.lenovo.com/solutions/ht507187

Re: Buying Parts For a New Sr530

Thank you for all the help, I hope I am nearing the end of this really bad situation.

So from what I understand I will need to get RAID card for the system so something like the

RAID 530-8,   Part Number:  02JG102

Should Work?

Or do I need the

THINKSYSTEM RAID 730-8I 1GB CACHE PCIE 12GB ADAPTER, Part Number:  01KN506

Sadly, I was not aware that there was a "2.5" 8-drive backplane kit (7XH7A05896)" that @ccchen pointed to.

I have already installed the 8x2.5 HDD BP: Part # 01GV280 and the 8x2.5 HDD BP Power Cable: Part # 01KN076 that seem to be fine.

IMG_20190822_083103.jpg

I guess my question is (saldy, I know it is not an intelligent question)

The 8x2.5 BP Signal: Part # 01KN082 doesnt seem to be the part I need, or will it be when attached the RAID contoller? Or do I need another BP signal cable?
