Conver server Raid 1 to Raid 5 without data loss (ThinkSystem SR550 7x04)

2019-05-17, 15:08 PM

Good morning people, the thing is i've created a DNS windows server 2012 R2 with a Raid 1 system, but i should've created it with a Raid 5 instead. How can i convert my Raid 1 system into a Raid 5 without losing any data?.

My Disk 0 and 1 have the Raid configuration. Disk 2 is Unconfigured Good. They are all a 4TB disk.

Backup your Raid disk fully, then convert it and migrate the data back.

Informatica1

Yes, backup the data first.

You should use StorCLI, this is the syntax:

storcli /cx/vx start migrate type=raidx [option=add|remove drives=[e:]s|[e:]s-x|[e:]s-x,y] [Force]

Your command may be something like:

storcli /c0/v0 start migrate type=5 option=add drives=e:2

The 0 on c0 and v0 may change if you have more than 1 controller/virtual disk
The e on e:2 . . . will need to change to whatever ID the FW gave the enclosure on your system (do “storcli /c0/eall show all” to find out)
The 2 on e:2 is for drive in slot 2

BTW, if you have a controller without cache, performance will be terrible (TERRIBLE) on a RAID 5.  You will not be able to convert back.

This helped me too

I've finally donde the STORCLI process, it'll take about 3 long days to finish the migration. Hope it make it well.

Thanks for answering and helping me.

Have a nice day.

Yours respectfully.

Hi again, i already have my WS with RAID 5, now the thing is; the system mix my 3 disks into one, i have my Virtual Device (unseen, that's not the problem). The GREEN rectangle is the operating system Disk (0). But, the RED rectangle is suppoused to be another disk(1), not a Disk0's partition. How can i Fix this problem? Help me please.

Try using paragon Disk manager to migrate or copy the partition
